Hey, I'm auditioning for the summer theatre company that I'm involved with's production of Once Upon a Mattress.
I'm a soprano, and good at character acting, so I'm gonna try for Lady Larkin or Queen Aggravain.
Does anyone have any suggestions on songs I could sing? Because I was searching through my music today and really couldn't come up with anything. Thanks! :)
These are just guess. But for the Queen, to show her disposition maybe "I HATE MEN" from Kiss me Kate.
And for Lady Larkin, for some reason I'm thinking Oklahoma stuff......"I can't Say No" or "Many a New Day". But not sure on this.

neither of the two from OK! would really work. "i cain't say no" works character-wise, but not vocally, and "many a new day" doesn't work character-wise. hmmm...this is a tough one.
i think "i hate men" wouldn't be bad for aggravain, though.
I have a friend who got the part of Lady Larkin and she sang "Young and Healthy" from 42th St for her audition
I'm really confused- I saw a production once where Lady Larkin was this cute really sweet girl, your typical romantic lead type person.....is she usually more of a character?
a really good audition song for that role would probably be "I'm Not At All in Love" from Pajama Game. someone at my camp for an audition song and it sounded great! another good soprano song would be either "Some People" from GYPSY or even "Diva's Lament" from SPAMALOT.
IdinaRocks, Lady Larkin is actually more of what you saw in that production. The Romantic Lead. And it's the Actual Lead, Princess Winnifred who is the Character type role.
