"The problem being, what? Or am I being overly sensitive to the shoe reference?"
Not a thing wrong with them if that is what you like. I just think a nice heel gives the leg a longer sleeker look that is more attractive.
But what would that have to do with determining the quality of one's writing? What you said was that you had no interest in reading the book because it sounded like it was written by someone with, basically, bad lower extremity fashion sense.
"bad lower extremity fashion sense"
I LUV that!!!! I'll have to use it. Hope you don't mind. What I meant is that those types of authors are usually very self rightous and preachy.

Well how on earth would you know that, not being a big reader and never having been encouraged to learn about anything other than fashion?
N&D is one of the least preachy, least self-absorbed books about class that I have ever read. And no, I don't mean poise class or fake wannabe high class as you normally think, BstnDmbo.
I'm getting the feeling that many of you have something stuck WAY too far up your as*es.
If you don't like the what the board has become, stay away from it. Don't waste your time bitching about it and making everyone else mad.
I do have friends who read and have tried to get me to read those types of books or go to boring lectures. That type of reading is just not for me. But since you recomend it so highly and say it is not preachy maybe I'll pick up a copy and read it over the summer.
little squirrel, if you don't like this thread, why not take your own advice and not read it? it's odd that many of the most frequent posters to this thread are the same ones that call for it's deletion. if it angers people, like has been said, they should not read it.
I have stopped myself from posting here 4 times in the last 30 minutes. Much like a coward in a foxhole, I'm a-fear'd to stick my head up for fear that it will get shot off....
BUT.
I think the "Subjects" of these posts show a delighful progression. Scroll through the pages and read just the subject lines. It might give you a giggle.
Namo, I sense a cobb salad coming on.
But gentlemen, the real question is still who will *serve* said salad...
must...fight...urge...mind...strong...fingers...weak...give...in...
or more importantly who'll toss it?

Dearest Al Dente,
Again, I am trying to figure out where I accused you of being Paul Wontorek...twice now you have made the assumption of this accusation and twice now I have asked you "Where is this hostility coming from?" One can assume you have an association with Broadway.com since you are oh so often defending their errors in reporting and poorly designed site, but I've made no assumption or accusation that you might be the one-and-only egomaniacal editor-in-chief.
I am Shirley Temple.
Aren't we all...
Yes comma yes we are.

Oh my! I see my post in the Stritch thread (wherein I impugned the heterosexuality of Liz Smith!) was removed! As Bette Midler once asked, "Why BOTHER?"
And as the French say, "Pourquoi embêtement avec cet endroit du tout? Quand y a-t-il des idiots comme Jose et vous ne pouvez pas mettre en référence la courroie-ons ici?"
D'ailleurs, je pense que Dawg est Rob ou Craig.
Au revoir, mes amis! Je suis allé!

Maintenant, j'ai envie de vomir. Au revoir, mon ami.
comment drôle vous tous les deux êtes ce soir
Must we resort to code?
Honestly, people.
You've never been shy about saying things out in the open before.
Why go and French it up now?
(hoped you liked that creative grammar, papa)
Speaking of tossing cobb salads, has anyone seen Julianna in THE WIZARD OF OZ?
FF, it's not *code* sweetie, it's French.
Dawggie do, are you still on Le Suject de Wontorek? i'm over it, so should you be. I'm generally not in favor of the vitriolic bashing that bway.com takes at every possible opportunity. It's too painfully obvious what it's about and no matter how badly you want them to go away, it's never going to happen, doesn't mean I have some personal agenda or association, I just don't forget where we ALL come from. We(most of us, at least) started posting and getting to know eachother at the old bway.com board, so why such hostitlity? And honey, short of sharing pm's (which I am loathed to do), let's leave it at that. ME thinks THOU dost protest too much, maitenant, n'est ce pas?
