We're in it to win it and we're in it together

PJ - can you provide some more detail on what you're describing? A link or something? Yes, I know how to Google, just looking for the source of this story you're describing.

Even if PJ can find some half-baked article that confirms this, it's time we realize he has gone a little bit on the nutty side.

The crossed-out story about Sanders entering to the homophobic rap song has been clarified: The video was edited with the rap song by a young Sanders supporter, not a Hillary supporter trying to make Sanders look homophobic. The young supporter edited the video because he thought it would make Bernie seem "badass."

The Peter Staley story is the one I was referring to.

Thanks for following up, PJ. That was ****ing appalling. What the hell was Warren Gunnels thinking? Insulting Peter Staley, of all people, in that manner is inexcusable. I think part of this no doubt stems from an assumption that many people probably hold: that the HIV/AIDS activist community is one monolithic group that shares the exact same strategies and tactical plans. I think sometimes the subtleties of the arguments within the community (say, from activists like Peter Staley vs. the HIV/AIDS-industrial complex with orgs like AIDS Healthcare Foundation) can be difficult for people outside the community to grasp, but that is no excuse for this behavior - especially that of Gunnels.

Well, clearly neither of our two Democratic candidates has an appreciation for the history of HIV/AIDS activism in the US. Whether it's Bernie's team - at best - misunderstanding or ignoring the recommendations of trusted HIV/AIDS activists and then mischaracterizing the nature of their meetings or if it's Hillary praising the HIV/AIDS legacy of the Reagans.

If Hillary gets to get away with characterizing her statement on the Reagans as a misspoken gaffe, I think it's fair to call the Sanders campaign mess a blunder. The primary difference, thus far, is that Hillary offered what - I at least - thought was a sincere apology that same week. I hope Bernie's campaign does the same.

All that said, in the grand scheme of things, let's look at Hillary and Bernie's HIV/AIDS platforms. They're both likely the most comprehensive and compassionate responses to HIV/AIDS in the history of modern American elections. In the grand scheme of things, I think that's what matters.

In the grand scheme of things, for the Sanders campaign to impugn the integrity of a longtime AIDS activist who is more of a hero than Bernie Sanders has ever been speaks volumes for how petty and vindictive the man and his campaign have become.

here's John Aravoais on what went down:

What's interesting about this Face the Nation interview from this morning is that Sanders now seems to be backing away from the "rigged" narrative. Perhaps he's finally turned the corner toward unity.

Sanders on Face the Nation: We knew the rules, not rigged, just dumb

We're in it to win it and we're in it together

I read this post on Facebook in the wee hours, and it stuck in my brain. Not my post, but apparently it's gone viral. It's worth sharing:

"Just who were you expecting? Seriously. When a woman finally captured the nomination of a major party for President, what kind of a woman did you think she would be? Did you think that she might be tough-minded and pragmatic, someone who knows how to work the system and who is willing to do that? Did you think she might be someone flawed, who has made mistakes, but who is also resilient enough to withstand two and a half decades of relentless attacks? Did you think she'd be a fighter, carrying the scars of a fighter? And if you thought she would be any of those things, did you also think that anyone would like her, given what we demand of women in this culture? Let me tell you something: I have not liked this woman, either. I don't agree with some of the things that she's done, and some of the things that she stands for now. But I admire her. I am moved by who she is, given what we have put her through. And I am absolutely for her." Scott Wilson

BorstalBoy, are you gonna remain a gadfly once the primaries are over within a week (two, if you count DC on June 14)?

I don't understand your question.

I dunno Borstal, you're supposed to succumb to the inevitability of Hillary. I guess the question is will you ever give up? You're a "gadfly" instead of someone who genuinely cares about the poor.

Oh, I won't stop. Nor can I really stomach a political conversation with someone who has a sainted Eva Peron as an avatar. "Screw the middle classes", indeed.

When we go to war again under Hillary's rule, I'm very anxious to hear how the bots are going to twist the disgust into unctuous, nodding complacency. "It's okay because she's a woman!" they'll chirp as they let themselves be distracted by bathrooms, a gorilla being shot or Laura Benanti appearing in public with broccoli stuck in her teeth.

Thanks, you're an American and although the most thoughtful comments showing up here are from an Aussie we're supposed to discount these cause he's a foreigner, how pathetic.

Here's nearly a crowd of 50,000 voters in Oakland summer heat. Surely the Baroness of Blood doesn't need these undesirables.

'Baroness of Blood"? Seriously? Look, whether it's 20, 30 or even 60k - the crowds that Bernie draws and the obvious passion of his most ardent supporters is impressive and, at times, astonishing. But, the plural of anecdote is not data. I'm not sure that a large crowd in the most progressive part of the state can be seen as evidence of anything just yet. He has drawn huge crowds in states that he has lost or narrowly tied in. I love this passion and I love this energy and I hope that it isn't totally lost after this election season. Yes the crowds are exciting to see, but I'm not sure they have much value beyond a fun story for the local 11pm newscasts.

If you continue to call her names, it will not be Hillary who is what is wrong with American politics, it will be the people who bring it down to the level of name-calling. People like Donald Trump and I hope not you.
