Liam
You should pick a saint whose story you identify with. If the name suits your given name then that's great, and if it doesn't you don't have to use it.
I use my confirmation name as part of my whole name beacuse it's a tribute to my late grandmother. I know a few people who use it, but most don't.
I was two weeks away from being confirmed Bernadette because I liked her story. Then my grandmother passed away and I realized she was actually named after St. Margaret of Scotland, besides that I'm a highland dancer and St. Margaret was actually one of the creators of the tartan, so my confirmation name is Margaret.
Similar story, my brother was confirmed right after my grandpa passed away so he took on his name.
But just find a Saint you can identify with. St. Geniseus (sp?) is the patron saint of the Theatre. Saint Cecilia is that of music. It's easy to find books at the library that give a brief rundown of each Saint, and if you have to write an essay anyway it's not a bad place to start!

Liam, you should pick a name thats meaning or Biblical figure means something special to you. There are plenty of saints out there. Look some of them up, see what they did and then pick your name accordingly. If not, then maybe you could pick the name of a deceased relative or your father's first or middle name. Who is your sponser? And what is their name? This is a big deal, so make sure its something that you will be proud to name yourself. This is like your new name in the Catholic church.
Is it obvious that I taught Sunday School and Summer Bible School for 4 years?

Posted: 4/1/05 at 11:03amI always wanted "Michael" for my confirmation name, but my Mom made me take my sponsor's name...which I didn't like. I'd tell you what it is,but then I'd have to kill you....LOL !!!

Are you Roman Catholic?
I assume you will need to select the name of a Saint, a Biblical person, or a virtue (for example, girls pick names like Faith, Hope, Charity).
I was a Catholic (until I was 20) and my confirmation name was Elizabeth (the mother of John the Baptist.)
I have a friend who picked Theresa for St. Theresa the Little Flower...and her middle name was Theresa, too. So she
was FirstName Theresa Theresa LastName when she was confirmed.
You may want to check the library for a Book of Saints.
Do you know your heritage/genealogy? What country did your family come from? You may want to check Saints associated with that area.
Just some ideas.

I guess there is no patron saint to be invoked specifically to improve spelling Liam, so might I suggest St. Catherine, who is invoked by both teachers and students because of her wisdom on all subjects. She is also the patron saint of Librarians and is invoked for help with alphabetization. She is one of the "14 Holy Helpers" who exist to help in our everyday life!
Fun fact: Catherine was to be torn apart on a spiked wheel (Later known as the 'Catherine Wheel.') Catherine called upon God to deliver her and touched the wheel, which instantly shattered, forcing her pagan tormenters to behead her, instead! Ha Ha pagans, God showed you.

LMAO Robbie!
My confirmation sponsor was my aunt (who's actually always been like a mother to me)... in looking for a confirmation name, I decided to use her middle name -- Teresa, for St Theresa the Little Flower.

My best friend took the name Cecilia, hoping that if she named herself after the patron saint of music, that saint would help her meet Paul McCartney. What a fool - never met Sir Paul and now she's stuck with a homely name. And somewhere in heaven Saint Cecilia is having a good laugh.
Mine's Elizabeth after Elizabeth Seton. I knew her great-great-great grandson in school and he was sooooo cute. (I failed to impress him with my choice)
