curling hair#0
Posted: 5/31/05 at 12:18pmhey guys.....so my hair is like extremely straight naturally. So, last night, my friend used a curling iron and curled tiny pieces of hair and sprayed it like crazy to get it to stay, and it looks like Christine-esque from POTO.... but, is the only way to get it to stay for a while hairspray? and, should I just use a lot of conditioner to get out the like 1 bottle + of hairspray in my hair? help please! thanks!

Use a good styling gel when your hair is wet next time, then coat it in hair spray, Sleep with your hair piled loosely on your head wrapped in a towel, it will protect the curls from falling out as badly in your sleep. Wash your hair 2-3 times with shampoo then use a good deep conditioner on it.
Best of luck from one chronically straight haired poster to another

How dare you take the major part of my screen name!
I have straight hair too (It's the only thing on me that IS straight). You may want to try a body wave and not a perm. Although, if your hair is ANYTHING like mine, they may have to use smaller rollers so that the perm doesn't fall right out.
Also, try wet setting it one night. After you get out of the shower, towel dry your hair, apply some styling gel and roll ith with soft curlers. Sleep on that over night and you should have a great head of hair in the morning.
As for washing out the ton of hairspray, be very careful as hairspray tends to dry out your hair, and if they have sprayed a lot on, it could break your hair as you try and wash it out. SOAK it first then star washing from the ends GENTLY!
Hope this helps!

Posted: 4/10/07 at 4:14pmI saw the screen name and got completely confused! 612, you can't be a theatre diva, you're female.

Posted: 4/10/07 at 4:17pmperms can sometimes backfire on extremely straight hair - I have seen it happen! I would say the best thing to do is wetset it at night - I used to do that for my dance competitions and it stays the longest. The next day, touch it up with hairspray

ok. But I do believe that you need some sort of certification from the Council Of Theatre Queens for that.

Special time at Sephora? I am very jealous.
I was just there for my Dr. Hauschka eye cream and cleanser yesterday.

I've yet to get my hair to curl without a ton of hairspray and a curling iron. And if I want them to stay for over four hours, I'm convinced that they are just totally stiff. The heat and the hairspray tends to try out my hair. I usually run it in the shower and use water to get most of the hairspray out before I shampoo. So it starts to feel more like hair again.
Special time at Sephora with jaily...where can one set up such appointments?!?!?

Posted: 4/10/07 at 6:02pmif you know anybody who french braids really well, just have your hair french braided really tight while it is wet, and sleep on it over night... once it is completely dried (which could take up to a day and a half) it looks really really nice, and is not TOO curly...

perms can sometimes backfire on extremely straight hair
So true. I permed my super straight hair once while in HS. I never had straight hair again. My hair is still naturally curly 8 years later. Always be careful for what you wish for!
