I'm playing Pridament of Avignon in Tony Kushner's "The Illusion." She's the ultimite unlikeable protagonist - elitist lawyer whose failing heart and tortured past have made her attempt - rather halfheartedly (Pleeeease excuse the pun) - to set right what she destroyed years before. Problem: her second thoughts about her life's journey haven't done much to make her less of what she is - a sanctimonious bitch.
The good news is, she NEVER GOES OFFSTAGE. I mean NEVER. I enter for the first line of the play, and don't exit once until my final line, two lines before the end of the show. Not even at intermission. Nope, I get to sit onstage looking bored. And it's a three-hour play. HOORAY FOR STAGETIME!!!
"The art of Illusion is the art of love; and the art of love is the blood-red heart of the world." - Tony Kushner, "The Illusion"
