My favorite rose is Apricot in color.
Mamie,
The pink roses are gorgeous. I adore flowers.
Except for carnations.

re: favorite flowers

I adore passion flowers and water lilies. But I also love queen anne's lace and dandelions.

"`I grow old... I grow old... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.` What does that mean, Mr. Marlowe?" "Not a bloody thing. It just sounds good." He smiled. "That is from the `Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.` Here's another one. `In the room women come and go/Talking of Michael Angelo.' Does that suggest anything to you, sir?" "Yeah -- it suggests to me that the guy didn't know very much about women." "My sentiments exactly, sir. Nonetheless I admire T. S. Eliot very much." Hyacinths are my favorite spring flower because they smell so good! I love lilacs too.

I ALWAYS plant white alyssum in the summer. Sunflowers are great as well.

My favorite cut flowers are gerbera daisies because they're so cute and cheerful.

I'm sure there's more I like though...

I am not a fan of red roses. I don't like their fragrance.

bunny, different red roses have different fragrances. Try a "Mr. Lincoln" or "Opening Night."

It's funny but I recently heard about a study that said that men buying roses for their ladies had a tendency to always buy the red roses. When you talked to the ladies though, they almost always prefered the lighter colored roses - white, yellow, pink, apricot. Unfortunately, they had to buy them for themselves - their husbands just wouldn't do it.

re: favorite flowers

I couldn't possibly pick just one - flowers are my favorite things. They are what remind me that in spite of everything, beauty persists.

Jane - I don't know where you are, but come to SoCal in the spring, and we'll stoll through the Huntington Gardens hand-in-hand and go straight to heaven.

And this is my new favorite thread re: favorite flowers

Thanks DG, how nice a thought. I'm in NYC though, and hate to travel. At least we have the Brooklyn Botaannic Gardens here! I'm in love with this thread also. This past summer I had a show of my photographic composites-all of flowers. I'm so glad that you love them as much as I do.

Jane - I wasn't familiar with the Brooklyn Gardens, so I looked it up - how wonderful it looks! And I'll be in NYC the first week of April - it might be just a tad early for the north-east, but it looks like it would still be well worth the trip.

Oh, DO go there! There will definitely be SOME stuff in bloom, but even so, the grounds are beautiful. Once the weather's warm enough, I go there once a week!
