ok i am like 99.8347648% sure there is a post out this somewhere but it wasnt on the main board and i was like NO cuz its 12:40am and im not searching for it!
anyway, i auditioned for syracuse jan 5th and overall id say it went pretty well, aka if the dance portion had not existed i would have been psyched about my audition, but unfortunately the dance portion DID exist which leads me to my question, is the dance audition really THAT important? i mean its not like im completely immobile and im not robotic or anything. everyone else doing the audition had prior dance training and i dont. we had to fill out these papers and i was the only one who practically left the whole thing blank and when it came to the audition i completely screwed up. i laughed it off and at least the auditioners got a sense of my humor, but they might not have found the dance humorus, maybe more so.. torturous?
anyway, blah
sorry i needed to vent.

It factors in, but it won't kill you.
I suck ass at dance and I ended up being fine last year. Even if you can't do it, you need to sell it. Use your other strengths to your advantage. Can't dance? Then act it! Suck with style! They don't expect you to be an incredible dancer. Above all, they want to see if you are trainable.
Don't let it worry you too much.

at syracuse it matters. you def. need to a be a triple threat to get in. it's diff. at every school tho
Well then I guess you're screwed. Thanks for the help!
When I auditioned for Syracuse they said that it's very important how you do in your dance audition, in which I did horribly.
gee, well thanks for the.. help? ah ok. blah
I am DREADING the UArts dance audition. DREADING it.
see the thing that sucks is i could probably have done it if we had like 10 more minutes to learn the dance. damn.
good luck
Wicked... don't worry about it. Cathy's response was less than true and not very nice either.
Of course everywhere says the dance is important. Every school I auditioned at said so. Of course it will factor into their decision. It will NOT necessarily keep you from getting in.
Well.. I auditioned for Balwin-Wallace college where it's a music based program, their dance portion was sooo tough for me, but yet I don't have ANY dance experience at all. So I understand what you are going through. But even though I couldn't dance it, I made it look like I knew what I was doing.
Best of luck,
Travis
Dance for most school auditions, is not the deciding factor. It was at BoCo. I don't think it is at UCLA. I knew a horrible dancer who got into NYU.

Once you get into a school, take every dance class you can, especially ballet which teaches discipline and body awareness.
My school has a pass/fail phys ed requirement and dance got me through it.

a lot of schools say they look for your "potential to be taught" AKA you don't have to be the BEST dance ever as long as they can tell you have rhythm and they think their dance program would be enough for you to be proficient when you left.
some schools even say that their dance program isn't for admissions at all -- simply for placement if you do get into the program. but then again, some schools really ARE looking for triple threats.
WICKEDcool19, please tell me as much as you can about the dance! I audition for Syracuse in two days and that is my biggest concern. I have dance experience from being in several shows around the valley here but am afraid on how I will match up compared to everyone else! Anything else you wanna share about the entire audition would also be greatly appreciated :) by the way, I am new to the board so hello everyone!
The CCM dance call wan't too bad if I remember correctly.
Let us know how the CCM audition goes and break a leg Movieguy! My audition for them is in a month!
When I auditioned for Sheridan College, they said the dance portion was not important beforehand, so I thought I was fine. But when I walked in, I was surrounded by people who had been dancing all thier life (I danced as a kid, but nothing really after the age of 13). I had a hard time keeping up. And when I got my little "We're sorry but NO" talk after the audition, they told me to go and focus more on my dance and come back. They had no problem with anything else.
So I hate to say it, but for some places, it is pretty important. But like they told me then, that couldn't stop me from getting a bit more training and trying again the next year (I just chose not to).
