i know that im not a regular poster but i do read this site every day and i enjoy reading what you all have to say and when i want to add my opinion i do. however, im slightly annoyed that the student board has become a board where people post things asking for monologues and audition selections. no offense but i dont think that a message board is the best place to collect this information. you are sure to recieve help from people who have knowledege in this area but at the same time i think its becoming a sign of lazniess. we discussed this in my muscial theatre class today and its something that is really beginning to annoy me. why not try searching the internet, or talking to your theatre teacher or theatre friends. i dont see the point in asking for advice from posters on a website meant for broadway and highschool theatre postings. its not smart because not only do people not know your own voice or what you are capable of performing dramatically but they dont know you as a person and i know that when i see someone with posts begging for advice i always wonder why they havent at least tried to find something on their own first. i have a solution to this problem so that we dont keep having multiple threads with HELP, I NEED..., etc. i was thinking that on one simple thread we could have people post if they feel its absolutely necessary and people could PM them with ideas. im going to seriosly stop reading this student board soon because its starting to bother me that every thread that has an interesting title is another sad performer who is to lazy to research their own audition material. and im really not a bi*** but im just annoyed with the crazy amount of unecessary posts regarding audition material.
If you don't like it, don't read it. You don't have jurisdiction over who people choose to ask for audition advice. Don't try to either. Live and let live.
This is pretty much what this board is for... to discuss student stuff!
Part of being a student is auditioning... and we do a lot of it!
It's nice we have a board where we can get advice from others who have and are going through the same processes.
I'm sorry it annoys you.
i love idina, I really don't want to be mean to you, because you sound so sincere.
Yes I know, it's not the best source to get that kind of information. But it's not all laziness.
There are high schoolers on this board like myself who don't know a lot about the realities and paperworking steps of musical theatre, and this has been a good resource to those of us that concerns. I don't have many close theatre friends, if any. And I can't excatly consider voice or dramatic training at the moment, wheat with so many expenses around here.
So I agree, there are better ways of getting this kind of information.
But BWW has given me ideas for colleges, audition tips and headshot advice, and other, well, things concerning theatre & regular students. And if that's not a Broadway Student Board delivering what it promises, well then I don't know what is.
like i said im not in any way trying to be rude its just that honestly getting advice about what to sing or read for auditions from people who dont know you and have never heard you isnt the best idea and im just kind of annoyed with the interesting thread titles that all seem to end up being posts about finding that kind of info thats all
i know a great website for anyone who needs advice on any sort of audition and what would be appropriate to sing or read and what is overdone as well as a show index with just about every show you could imagine, i might as well put it on here so you all dont think im a total jerk. haha i am a student to and i do know what it is like to be in a frenzy looking for audition material i was just kind of warning some people who are making decisions about college audtioning, a huge event in your life, that advice from people you dont know and havent heard you might not be your best bet!

uhhh, that's what this board is for. Help from and for students.....
You know what annoys me...how people are talking about BROADWAY on the main board....WHAT is that?!?!

so its ok for you to put up advice?
RE: HELP! Need advice on how to get correct advice!
Its a message board hun! THats what this is for, talking about auditions and monologues and whatnots! I am guilty of putting up RE:Need help finding monologue messages. and I am proud.
It does become a hassle wading through a bunch of "Help!" posts, but it is a student board, so I understand. It's probably not the best source for audition material, but it can be very helpful. So even if it’s a hassle, it's hassle for the greater good.
whatever its nice to know that i can't even post my opinion on here anymore without getting hassled. i was just trying to remind people that the advice that your getting isnt always going to be the best bet so you should consult multiple sources and not some message board. so sorry for expressing my opinion i'll remember from no on only to say what will make YOU ALL happy and not what i actually think!
thanks guys!
The reason why the student board was created was so that people could post suggestions for song and monologue choices.

i'm hoping to be accepted into a GREAT college and it helps me to talk to people who have been in that audition process, or will be. i've learned SO much from this board, from students, cause it's a student board which opens many doors to many different types of questions, audition ?'s, monologue help, songs. Help is hard to come by in my town because nobody is going for music theatre, so this is my help! :)
This board is to help students with audition material monologues etc. If you don't like it then get off the student board or don't read it. Ever heard of punctuation?

The operative word here is "opinions" and "suggestions" (okay, so that was 2 words). It's not like they're asking people to do homework for them, but the audition process can be very intimidating, and a lot of kids here appreciate the "suggestions" and "opinions" of others. That's not to say that they should lean back and have others do the work for them, but for some advice and all that, I think this board is pretty useful.
It's a bit like on the main board, when they ask others what shows they should see when they come to New York. It's not like they haven't tried, or are too lazy to think for themselves, but they would like other's opinions to ensure a better experience.

Honey, it wouldn't hurt you to capitalize your letters when you're starting a new sentence.
And may I also remind you that is isn't just 'some message board'. Lots of people in the know are registered here, and even people who aren't in the know, but have been through similar situations as expressed on this section are registered here. Therefore, they know what they're talking about. Sometimes, people don't have an answer, but there is always someone here who does, for what I have seen.
Really, I don't even see why you had to start a thread about being annoyed. Like My Fair Lady said, 'If you don't like it, don't read it.' It's as simple as that. Instead of bitching about 'being annoyed', the best thing to do is just ignore this section completely...if it's going to cause you that much grief.

now now kids lets not get mean here. she posted her opinion, you didnt like it@ leave it alone. we all know what the student board is for, i dont think 20 people posting the same thing will finally make her realize what she already knows. lets play nice now, shall we?
