Leann Rimes' "Probably Wouldn't Be This Way". Paired with the video, it's especially heartbreaking.
The September 11th anniversary remix of "Heaven".

The song Night Swimming(Don't know who it's by. Sorry.)is very sad. Another song that is very sad is, oooooo what is it called? It stars like "Kilcoah, Ireland, 1817" Something like that? Anyway, it's not even deep, sad. It's just dead depressing.

theatrebabe - REM sings Night Swimming.
My vote is Don't Take the Girl by Tim McGraw. That's also one of the best songs I've heard.

This is the first song I heard of Tori's and it holds a VERY special place in my heart. I came out to my friends listening to this and it has helped me through some very tough times.

There's this one song that I can't listen to because it's so sad. But I don't know the name. It's about a father and a son and the father isn't around, and when the son grows up he ends up just like his father. It's like, "We'll get together then, dad, you know we'll have a good time then." or something.
boytobroadway...no mention of "Me and A Gun"? Or maybe "Hey Jupiter"?
A few Idina Menzel songs come to my mind. "You'd Be Surprised," especially. Though her original arrangement of that song is about 100 times more powerful then the one that ended up on her CD.
ashley that song is Cats in the Cradle. Harry Chapin sang it.

Michael Penn's "The Big Top". It's the first song you hear in the movie, Boogie Nights.
I don't know who sings them, but Christmas Shoes and Dance With My Father Again are 2 of the saddest songs I know. Oh, and when I first saw Josh Groban sing To Where You Are on Ally McBeal I cried like a baby.
