There's something about people d'un age certain also adopting "awesome" as a catch-all validation (movies, sushi, new interiors on HGTV, Hillary's yellow blazer) that pushed this latest bit of hyperbole over the line for me. We had to put up with everyone owning "cool" in the 90s, even those who remembered Maynard G. Krebs's prime time use ... and then grown men dubbing one another "dude" (still sounds affected, unless you're 14). But now, the 501K crowd's embrace of "awesome" really grates. Especially when interjected to replace more specific responses. I dunno, I do realize the tight-assed slang police are no fun. But neither is hearing "awesome" 47 times a day out of people with botoxed brows. Get a Thesaurus, dude.

It's not just old folks using it, but I'd like to add the word "amazing" to the list. I'm almost ready to stop watching "Ugly Betty" because it seems that that is the only adjective the writers know.

Remember the first time "awesome" was popular? It's simply a trend in slang. It will eventually be replaced with a new slang word or perhaps by a retro slang word.

How about we go back to "rad"?

Occasionally, one of those hackneyed expressions really works for me and I think it's the best word for the moment. For instance, "whatever" is sometimes the perfect word for what I want to express, so I will say it. Even though it's no longer trendy.

Anytime I heard someone say "S'all good" I always wanted to turn around just once and scream at them:

Appropos of nothing really, there are two 'hetero' phrases that really stick in my craw:

Cougar; and
Push present.
