I did use the search feature, and what came up were headlines from BWW news.
Did anyone watch last night's episode? I thought the acting was superb. Not only Edie, but James also.
I love the idea of Buddists suing Tony S
Maybe him coming out of a coma would help. The first 3 episodes were dreck
I thought they were great.
To each his own
I could not believe Michael pushing his movie to Tony who was obviously out of it
Well that was to show how selfish and inconsiderate the kid really is. I thought the way James was portraying someone who just came out of a coma was superb.
I loved it too - and I LOVED the way that they used Steve Buscemi. PERFECT. I think the writers are making some brilliant choices so far.
Falco just gets better in every episode. Her scene with Melfi was heartbreaking. Every fear Carmella felt for the last 20 years finally coming to the front as she realizes how her complacency has destroyed her children's lives.
I loved the episode - but the scene with Carmella and Melfi was completely false. I don't believe for a second that Melfi, as professional as she is, would see Carmella as a "patient," talking about things Tony and her discussed. I don't think Carmella would have gone to her either - the things she said SHOULD have been said in a confessional in church. Carmella is supposed to be religious - the only reason they did this was to put Bracco in the episode.
Otherwise - great episode. I can't wait to see how this thing with Vito ends up blowing up in everyone's faces. The scene with Steve Buscemi was just inspired. When my parents were in a bad car accident, my stepdad was in a sort of coma for a couple of days -- Gandolfini's performance was DEAD ON for the look and mannerisms of someone waking from that state. I couldn't believe how close he was to how my stepfather was when he woke up. Brilliant, brilliant acting.
We agree on the acting, Jason. But I can easily see why Carmella went to Melfi. First they ran into each other in the market. Melfi was probably a c omforting face for Carmella, since Melfi had been so close and such a help to Tony. In times of severe stress and fear, I can see her turning to that particular shrink for help.
I can see your point and agree with it to an extent, Jason. But this being a "drama" and not real life I was willing to overlook that little lapse in professionalism. And this is not the first time Carmella went to see Melfi, so it didn't seem so glaring an impropriety.
To me Falco is the show . I find myself bored when she is not in a scene.
Falco is great in the show, I also love to see scenes with Janice but Gandolfini is a brilliant actor. While he was in a coma, he was supposed to be bordering on purgutory and hell which was those flames he kept seeing outside his window. It is an aburd thought because you do not go to purgatory first if you go to Hell but that is neither here nor there. Silvio sitting on the toilet while Vito and Paulie were fighting outside the john was hysterical. Stevie Van Zant admits to not being a great actor, but he was priceless. Vito is going to be a big problem that is quite evident and the fact that his cousin married to Phil Leotardo's wife will be another problem. He will probably get killed for being gay. Side note, Joe Ganniscole, asked for that part of his being gay, written into the show. He read an article somewhere that someone in the mob was gay. Did anyone remember the guy from about three seasons ago who went to jail, Larry Barese. He just seem to come out of nowhere. Another funny scene was Paulie clipping coupons with $1,000,000.00 in his house. This whole show only shows that these guys are all loose canons without Tony and he is the one that holds them all together. The dream family reunion for Finnerty with Steve Bucemi, who is involved in directing some of the shows, made it all come together. He was supposed to be going to die, the reunion, with a woman made to look like his mother in the doorway, but refusing to let go of his briefcase which was his whole life. (in reality he had to let go of his life) It seems unlikely that Tony's idea of paradise would be a place where his mother was. It was a great show but I am glad the dream sequence is over. Gandolfini has a beautiful speaking voice when not playing the part of Tony Soprano.
Oh, I believe Carm would go to Melfi - I just find it hard to believe that Melfi would see her -- and use the words "Tony would say...." which I'm pretty sure she did...
jason, I had a friend who went to a shrink and his boyfriend went to the same one separately, and they also went to her together. I don't think it's that unusual.
OK - I'll accept it then. It just at the time seemed strange to me. It's a minor point to quibble about in an otherwise great episode :)
No prob, no one here is really right, it's just fun discussing what we think of it!
Broadwalady, I had a totally different reaction to the scene with Paulie cutting the coupons humorous. I found it very sad. Here is a man who just pulled of a grisly hit, got hurt in a very horrible place all in the name of the family, and he is sitting there cutting out coupons. I thought that was a beautiful touch, not a funny site gag.

No one bumped this? WTF! lol. Paulie is really freaking me out now. He has always been a loose cannon, but now after attacking that kid when Tony said to his mother she had his word. I see a family meltdown coming on. I also can't stand the preacher boy - he is scary, and you know Tony just wanted to tell him to F-Off.
cheese, I'm glad you brought this up. I wasn't paying enough attention last night. When Paulie was crying after that woman was promised by Tony-was he crying because he knew he was going to beat him up? Please explain.

I'm not sure Jane - it seems to me he is really screwed up over the Nun/mother thing. (as well he should be - lol) His comment about his life being a joke - and then Tony giving reassurance to this woman - I think by his actions he has decided not to let his life amount to a joke any longer. By attacking the kid - he is basically saying that he is not going to be second fiddle any longer - and he is taking charge of his own life in the only way he knows how. I was really shocked that happened - especially when Carm had mentioned that Vito was the one Tony needs to watch out for.
I think he was touched by the mother's love for her son since he just discovered that's something he's never TRULY known. Paulie is going to be a huge loose cannon now...

Jason - I agree totally. He saw something more that he has never had, and now all bets are off.
I love how even the "not so exciting" episodes of this show go so deep into character. The dialogue is so rich, and you know it's all building towards something. The only other show I've seen this work on is Lost - maybe it's a mistake to put so much faith that the producers of these two shows know what they're doing...I hope they don't let us down!
