re: 08-09 Shows That You Think Are Going To Be Successful

The Shrek films are some of the highest grossing of all time. Not even in the same category as the more cultish Young Frankenstein.

I'm a big iffy about how American audiences will take Billy Elliot.

Yeah I did think of YF but Tesori and Lindsey-Abaire are a much more credible composer/lyricist team than Mel Brooks.

Not that it's any indicator of quality, but Brooks has a Tony award. They don't.

I think Billy Elliot will be the runaway hit of the season.

I also think Shrek is either going to be a huge hit, or it's going to bomb. I don't there will be any middle ground with it.

9 to 5 should be successful.

The big bomb this fall is going to be Tale of Two Cities.

I'd like to see all shows coming be successful -

but probably, 9 to 5, Shrek, and I think Nice Work if You Can Get It if it makes it to broadway will be good because it IS Gershwin afterall

Once the publicity ball gets rolling on Equus I think it'll definitely be a big hit.

I also think 13 stands a decent chance. Teen theatre geeks from out of town love angsty musicals by Jason Robert Brown. And they could actually potentially star in this one. Older theatre people like Jason Robert Brown. The premise could intrigue families who don't know anything about the composer.

I think Shrek is going to clean house, because recognizable family shows (Lion King, Wicked, Mary Poppins, Little Mermaid) were all big hits, though I don't think it will be, I hope [tos] will be

Billy Elliot is going to be the next Megahit. It is irresistable.

Shrek? Do you really want to see it? Even with the great cast can you even imagine it on stage? I think it could thud.

I too wonder how New York audiences are going to like Billy Elliot. It's funny sometimes to see how some shows can be big hits in London, and bomb over here, and vice versa. Sometimes it's not like that, though, so one never can tell. I have to say Billy Elliot is low on my list of shows I want to see. I bet Shrek will be great. Even if it isn't a Tony Award hit, it will be a hit, I'm sure. I agree that West Side Story will probably do well.

Shrek will be amazing, no doubt.

So will 9 to 5.

[tos], though... just seems too inside to run very long.

Shrek? Do you really want to see it?

^I agree. I am skeptical about how well Shrek is going to appeal to audiences. I don't think it will have the same appeal as Disney shows. I personally think this has to do with Disney shows being so closely tied to their music. Shrek doesn't have that going for it. (What do I know though?)

Upcoming Shows: Quilters, A Bronx Tale, August: Osage County, Wicked, Spring Awakening, Little House on the Prairie

i think title of show will run for a while, maybe 8 months, 6 possibly.
9 to 5 worries me just because of the theatre. drowsy was a great show and it closed in little over a year.
ToTC...i am concerned with this show.
shrek, i agree, it's either going to be a hit, or a flop

and is spiderman considered in the 08-09 season...

re: 08-09 Shows That You Think Are Going To Be Successful

Eqqus, Shrek and TOS will be success. The first two are gonna be huge. I say TOS will be a sucess because it doesnt cost much to run and therefore I think it will make back its investment.

I am sorry but A tale of Two Cities is going to be wonderful Oh and Shrek is one of the most recognizable MOVIES AMONG KIDS more than Little Mermaid or Lion King are now at least. It's fresh in kids minds and most kids own the movie.
