guys, dont be annoyed with travolta, hes taking a TOTALLY different take on edna, he cant be like harvey or divine, he just cant. its something fresh, and we should all appreciate it. oh and btw, i hope we hear more of nikki and john's new part(a little louder, not so drown out)

i thought he did very well with the like 2 spoken lines i saw from the trailer, just didnt care for the singing as much.
oh well, cant wait for the movie anyhow!

I understand final mixing hasn't been done or anything, but to me it's not that he doesn't sound womanly enough, it's just there's nothing quirky about his singing. It's just like "John Travolta" singing, not a character voice.
that and he sounds bored but like we've heard, it's just a promotional thing.

I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. OMG! That was one of the greatest things I have ever seen! :) I love how the 'magically' change Edna's hair! The Dynamites sound very similar to the ones from the Broadway OBC. I love the choreography. Alot better than on Broadway. (No offense). I just loooooved Tracy's entry sequence! It is amazing what Adam Shankman can do! By the way, anyone have the pic of the woman wearing the dress shown in Edna's dressing room? (purple dress).

I was thinking while rewinding and watching and re watching the clip last night, how generous it was. To give us nearly all of the musical number - is pretty amazing. Especially when the movie is still in post production.
I like that my mind could not have predicted what the outcome would look or sound like. I had my own take on it as a lot of people do- and this is far from it.
It has such an old-Hollywood-MGM-musical feel. It seems true to 60's cinema.
The movie benefits from real location work in this number specifically and I think this is where the movie sets itself apart from the MGM feel- in that the streets are not pristine and the lighting is fairly realistic without being overly glamorous/worked. So it has that grit, but with the dancing posters and burst of fireworks- it walks this strange line... Similar to Oz's Little Shop of Horrors - but without the intentional sound stage-atmos.
I know the music isn't complete- but there are some great things going on... there is this underlying melody playing (and I wish I knew music terms, so I can explain myself) but it begins "so let go go go of the past now..." and it sounds like a violin- but I'm not sure. It's quite beautiful. It's playing the W260's intro- but with slightly more grace.
I am as excited as ever to see the finished product.

Imagine how much more amazing this would be with Harvey.
Ugh. John Travolta looks SO boring. He does not make me want to see this movie at all. It's all curious how they don't really show much of him in the trailers for it.

Did anyone else the continuity mistake in it, or is it just me? In one shot there is a black dress and in the next shot it is gone. I love this video. It looks like Hairspray is going to be alot of fun!

a group of actors who have been in the broadway and national (eq) tour productions were brought in pre-filming of the movie to sing backup for the movie tracks. this included the original dynamites reprising their vocal performances for the movie

There's a story behind that sequined black white collared dress hanging in the dressing room with Edna. It's actually a copy of the famous see-thru Arnold Scaasi bell-bottomed pant suit Barbra Streisand wore to the Oscars the year she won the Best Actress Oscar for FUNNY GIRL.
I believe the "Welcome to the 60's" number included a montage of Edna trying on different dresses, one being of course that black white collared pant-suit. This continuity error reflects why the ensemble isn't hanging anymore when Edna bursts out in the sequined pink dress.

musical- I noticed aswell. It is Edna's Barbra Streisand Oscar dress.
But In my mind- she tried it on and didn't like it - and set it down. :)
Plus it looks better in frame if the black dress isn't there. It pulls too much focus in the monochromatic scheme.

exactly Brody-
In an interview with John Travolta he said that the costume designer(Rita Ryack) made a replica of Barbra's 1969 Oscar outfit.
He also added that he didn't get to wear the outfit in the film.
But it does make an apperance in this scene.
* I hadn't heard about the dressing montage- but that would have been really cute.

The way they stopped the camera, changed the hair, then started the camera back up? Yea, that's better than any CGI....

Perhaps they are still working on the effect.
It was a lil, for lack of a better word, crude.

Okay...I just watched that MTV clip of "Welcome to the 60's" twice and I don't see this 'magically' changing of Edna's hairdo. Where/when does this take place?

Thanks -- 'cause the clip shown on MTV last night only runs 1 minute 53 seconds.
Longer one online AND it's quite obvious THAT is not the effect we'll be seeing when the film is released. The 'morphing' CGI hasn't been done on that clip yet.
