Someone should've swapped out "Milk" with "Wolf of Wall Street."
I think Sophie's Choice could be stunning.
SOPHIE'S CHOICE! THE MUSICAL!
I have mixed feeling about this. On one hand, I get that the trend of turning movies into musicals has become a bit tiresome. And I agree that several of the movies on this list would be really tough to pull off onstage. But on the other hand, I don't think it's really fair to say that any movie automatically wouldn't work on stage, just because of the themes or structure or whatever. I think most movies have the potential to be effectively adapted into a musical under the right creative team. The person who made this list seems to think that every musical is jazz-hands, kick-lines and ABBA
Earth Girls are Easy, son!
I think TOOTSIE would me a good musical, actually.

I'd like to see Sophie's Choice: The Musical! I think it could be like Drood where the audience votes on which child gets sacrificed and then the show continues based on what the audience decides.
Jaws
Platoon
No Country For Old Men ...
I do like the idea of the children being brought out while the audience votes on which one stays and which one goes.
Sophie's Choice, Schindler's List, The Diary of Anne Frank ... those of us who are the first generation away from the Holocaust (i.e., whose parents were refugees or survivors) would probably not be able to handle the sadness. However, I think that some Holocaust stories about heroes might be ok -- e.g., "Defiance" as a musical. That MIGHT work.
FROZEN
Tootsie is being made into a musical, and I agree. I actually think it could be fantastic. Personally I think it's all about execution. All of these could be great musicals or crappy ones.... just depends on how they are adapted.
Forrest Gump
Looking For Mr. Goodbar
Fatal Attraction
Movies that should NEVER be made into musicals:
1) Water World
2) Dumb and Dumber
3) The Interview
4) Seven Days in May
5) The Time Machine
6) Sorry, Wrong Number
7) The Deer Hunter
My Dinner with Andre
9) Law Abiding Citizen
10) 300
Movies and books that would,in my opinion, make great musicals:
1) Gone with the Wind
2) To Kill a Mockingbird
3) Rebecca (Hmmmm)
4) Mrs. Mike
5) The Imitation Game
6) Exodus (the one with Paul Newman, about refugees trying to get into Israel)
7) Cast a Giant Shadow
Advise and Consent
9) The Yellow Rolls Royce
10) Turning Point
Gone with the Wind
Shogun
Exodus..
oh they already did that?
let me add Dr. Zhivago
I thought there was a workshop for The Miracle Worker a couple of years ago?
I can actually see Amour working somewhat, but it would be so utterly depressing.
Sadly Gone With The Wind was already turned into a musical(I think West End) and flopped badly with scathing reviews. It did not go well, a lot of people still think the Rhett and Scarlett should only be played by Gable and Leigh.
There are a lot of movies/books that really couldn't work as musicals but then there are some that would make for incredible musicals just like Hugo's Les Miserables made for one incredible musical.
One book/movie I'm still surprised isn't a musical yet is East of Eden(my god Cathy Ames is pure Broadway Gold, it'd be a role jucier than Fantine and Norma Desmond combined), it has such huge potential and could easily be the next Les Miserables with the right people involved.

There was a musical based on East of Eden called Here's Where I Belong. It was the first effort by playwright Terrence McNally. It ran for 20 previews and 1 performance and there is a bootleg recording of the score available on LP commercially released by Blue Pear, but it was never turned into a CD. Songs from the show are available on volumes 2 and 3 of Lost Broadway and More, as well as the third Unsung Musicals album.

I at one point had the Yours, Anne cast album. With such great songs like "I'm not a Jew, like in the zoo..."
Tootsie would be a great ****in musical!!!
"Broadway has already showcased quite a few drag musicals, but this one would be a logistical nightmare because the actor playing "Tootsie" would have to keep switching between Michael and Dorothy, resulting in some serious wig burn."
But yet Lola in Kinky Boots changes gender like a million times in that show
The Interview: The Musical!
I would pay top dollar to see that.

And Musto must have seen the shows "The Mystery of Irma Vep" or "Greater Tuna" which have two actors making split second changes between the genders. It can be done.
Ben Hur
Wait a minute. There was a musical, probably never professionally produced, of this movie/book. I have the CD of the score which I never even listened to.
The Brits can,I swear, musicalize anything
