Not bad, really. But I don't think the Tony's are gonna be this, uh... purple.

I look forward to BWW's annual Tony poll. It will be fun to compare.
And may I just add that I'm thrilled that Jonathan Pryce and Rachel York made the cut as Best Replacements.
lc
Orfeh should have been nominated for favorite Diva performance! What's up with that?
what about Pryce and Butz as best onstage pair?
glad that Pryce and York got noms. for best replacement.
How on Earth did Rue McClanahan get recognized? I know it's a trivial category, but Rue McClanahan? For that disastrous performance??
Was Christine Ebersole not elligible for the diva performance?

Yes. The Color Purple, fantastic!
However, I must agree with jdixon on this, I don't think the Tony's will have that much Purple to them either. The Color Purple sent out an online newsletter to their subscribers telling them to vote, so that probably affected how many nominations there were for that show. It's a great show though, so I don't know...
no acting nods for History Boys.
what a gip. goes to show the average IQ of bway.com viewer
kidding. but not really. it's frustrating.
good for Lauren Molina. she really is brilliant
I can't wait to know who wins!
Hilty and Vereen for best replacements.

what about Pryce and Butz as best onstage pair?
All of the nominations, with the exception of favorite replacement and favorite long-running show, are for shows that have opened during the past season. Since Dirty Rotten Scoundrels opened last year, it is not eligible. However, last year Norbert and John Lithgow won for favorite onstage pair.
Why hell is Avenue Q and Wicked nominated for favorite longest running musical over CHICAGO? Which has been playing for 10 years.

Ljay, I thought the same thing exactly, did it shock me? Not really, given that there's only one actress in the Best Replacement category who wasn't in Wicked--forget about the great triple-threats who had to show actual talent in Chicago--I can only imagine what type of audience actually voted for this audience awards. It's quite sad, yet at one point you become too cynical to care.
Couldn't agree more, Fosca.
I want to know why The History Boys only got 2? Really come on people please!
I wasn't expecting so many noms for The Color Purple. I really don't think the Tonys will be like this at all. And Orfeh for Diva Perf? Trailer Park for Ensemble?
Went different than I expected.
I find it interesting to see Amanda Peet nominated for Favorite Leading Actress in a Play.

Key word- favorite. Not best.
Critics dissing Julia, audiences loving Ms. Roberts.
Even so. Favorite??
Yes, these nominations are surprising, and mostly WAY off-base.
Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick? PLEASE.
At least Manoel Felciano has been nominated for something. Hope this shows how much we like him.
Given how these nominations are in no way indicative of the way most of us at BWW feel (at least, the most vocal posters), Felciano's inclusion should help dispel the notion that he's only viewed as a standout within the BWW community. He certainly does have an appeal that extends far beyond this community.
I put my nominations in when the nominating voting occured, and some of my votes made it up, but I am very pissed that WIW was not recognized at all! At least I have the peace of mind that I voted a lot for wiw.
I thought the Jai Rodriguez one was interesting. Although I still like him, my friends that saw him in it ragged on his performance.
This sounds terrible, but it would be a complete rip off if Julia Roberts won. It's unfair for me to say that, I know, - I haven't even seen it - I'm trusting my NYC friends and the reviews....
Isn't it great that RENT is still so popular? I wonder how longt it will go before it closes. And if/when it does - can you imagine the revival? Weird.
