DG-Souvenir will DEFINITELY be considered a play.
I wouldn't rule out Laura Benanti, either. She's a critics' darling, even if the buzz surrounding her show is, well...less than glowing.
Also, I believe Carolee Carmello will be considered featured.
LaChanze, LuPone and Friedman are locks. Friedman could get sympathy votes for her bravery during her cancer scare. Edie Falco could also be a major player, depending on how her performance and the production are received.

Actually if (and I mean if) Woman in White happens to close before the Tony’s then Friedman might not get nominated also she got great reviews for a show that didn’t and her outside drama seemed to be reviewed as much as her performance. She might not be the lock that many think she is.
At this point depending on how big Edie Falco’s role is she might be entered in Featured (they’re using a brand new Wallace Shawn text) so besides “probably” singing Pirate Jenny we don’t know how large or how much of a splash she’ll be able to make.
Carolee Carmello (who I LOVE) might be nominated since she’s well liked on Broadway but with Lestat being is the third vamp musical that might actually hurt her chances.
LaChanze is great in Color Purple but the problem might be is that she doesn’t have that moment in the show that would cinch a win (something’s up when Shug has more songs then Cecily does.)
At this point Patti LuPone has gotten the most attention and best reviews but there’s a lot of people in the Theater Community that don’t like her and that can hurt her chances (just like the Old Neighborhood) through at this moment I can see her winning. Also her doing Gypsy and all these Sondheim shows lately might help her chances.
If Sutton Fosters show transfers and lasts through Tony time she’ll be nominated but I think they’ll be more interested in giving it to a lady with a meatier role.
Kelli O’Hara might get in depending on how the reviews are for the show and if she’s singled out for them otherwise she’ll be considered pretty scenery. I think the same might depend on Laura Benanti however since many said she just missed a nomination for Nine and all she had was one song I wouldn’t rule her out at all.

And the winner is...
Lupone
Sweeney may just wind up being the best reviewed show of the season, just guessing here.
She also has a lot of post-Sunset Boulevard sympathy, is well loved...alright, worshiped by the theatre community and gave a stirring and creative performance.

Alright, summary time of what's so far established, because it definitely seems like there's a lot of repeats happening:
SWIWS and ILYB are off-Broadway
LaChanze, La LuPone, and Friedman are the three powerhouses
Souvenir and Judy Kaye will go in the play category
Sutton will be featured actress, if Drowsy manages to get here before the awards
O'Hara and Benanti are critics' darlings, but their shows might not be
Falco and Carmello's noms depend on the size of their roles.
Any questions?

aegeusrocks: thank you.
I think it is a little early yet.
We know the three are great, beautiful actresses.
But who knows who could slip in there for the upset.
