well i feel that this is going to be one of the toughest categories this year... from already opened shows we have lachanze, maria friedman and patti lupone. i think it's pretty safe to assume they will all receive nominations, but which will win is anyone's guess. also, the other two nominations... i'm putting my money on carolee to get one. but then kelli o'hara in pajama game? edie falco in threepenny opera? laura benanti in wedding singer? i think there is some fierce competition in this category and i'd love to hear other people's opinions!
My money is on: LaChanze La LuPone Maria Friedman Edie Falco Carolee Carmello
I'd love to say Kelli, but the whole Pajama Game revival doesn't seem to me that it would do well, and The Wedding Singer as a musical is iffy, I don't know how Laura will interpret it. But it's still early in the season, so who knows?
Sutton's character is featured the only lead is Bob Martin who plays Man In Chair
"First and foremost I want to thank God, because there is no way that somebody with my name from South St. Louis ends up at Radio City Music Hall holding one of these without some divine intervention" -- Norbert Leo Butz (Tony Speech)
well that technically is true liz, however there's been enough coverage by various writers that we would be throwing away money to bet that she'll be getting positive notices this week for her portrayal.
And critics don't decide Tony nominations. La Chanze will be a shoo-in for a best actress nod.

Not sure, but I think Carmello's role is Featured not Lead.

that's what i thought originally but i read an interview where they said her part was heavily beefed up due to the powerful men in the show, and not many women. so perhaps lead? i guess we'll have to wait for that one too.
What is up with all this Idina crap, ok so she has sometalent but that doesn't mean she's gonna win every year. Especially when she can't even be nominated. People really need to branch out and get off of the Idina.
