Who do you guys think have a possibility of being nominated?
Leading:
Raul Esparza, COMPANY
Will Chase, HIGH FIDELITY
Gavin Lee, MARY POPPINS
Martin Short, FAME BECOMES ME
Jonathan Groff, SPRING AWAKENING
Brian d'Arcy James, THE APPLE TREE
David Hyde Pierce, CURTAINS
Featured:
Michael Arden, THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN'
Daniel Jenkins, MARY POPPINS
Michael Berresse, A CHORUS LINE
Jason Tam, A CHORUS LINE
Matt Cavenaugh, GREY GARDENS
Christian Anderson, HIGH FIDELITY
Matt Caplan, HIGH FIDELITY
Jonathan B. Wright, SPRING AWAKENING
John Gallagher, SPRING AWAKENING
Christian Borle, LEGALLY BLONDE
Edward Hibbert, CURTAINS
But really, who's to say? Only two musicals have opened.
(Edited to add: CURTAINS men)
I am not sure is Marty Short will get a tony...i see him more getting the special event award
See CHITA RIVERA: THE DANCER'S LIFE (2006 Tony Awards) - deemed a musical. Chita Rivera was nominated for Best Leading Actress in a Musical.
Since I got clobbered last time I said I thought he deserved the award, this time I'll just say that if Esparza doesn't at the very least get a nomination, I give up my faith in the system.
Michael Arden will be considered leading rather than featured, I'm sure. Which will result in him not getting a nomination. Also, Michael Beresse doesn't have a great shot I think. I think Jason Tam is the only male from the ACL cast that will be nominated for a Tony.
sorry foster...but chita is differnt than marty...she is a bway legend and marty is not..ot could be differnt.

bjh, producers are the ones that choose which awards the actors can go up for. They could, in theory, have Michael be considered for best featured, if it were a less competitive category in comparison to the leading, to give them a better chance of winning.
Sorry, but I don't see Jason Tam and Matt Cavanaugh being nominated.
While Tam gives a servicable performance, I just didn't see the angst and inner torture as in Sammy Williams' performance and Matt's role/performance is quite simply a "walk on" and not a stand out.

That's irrelevant. The show itself has an original book and an original score, the reason why CHITA RIVERA: THE DANCER'S LIFE was deemed a musical. The shows are quite similar in that respect.
I'd add David Hyde Pierce in CURTAINS to the list. And add Edward Hibbert in the featured category.

im gonna go on a limb, and say Raul Esparza is probably a front runner in the leading actor category
i dont know, i just looked at the other names, and he seems the most likely to win the award

I'd say that of the ACL cast, the only people deserving of nominations are Deidre Goodwin, Chryssie Whitehead, Jessica Lee Goldyn, and Natalie Cortez. They won't get it, though.
bwayondabrain, from the raves Raul received out of town, I'd say he's absolutely a front runner. He has everything going for him. He's been on the theater scene for years, has always received raving reviews, plus he lost a few years ago in a *very* tight race against Michael Cerveris (Raul won the Drama Desk that season).
I'd say Raul's the frontrunner as well, although I wouldn't count Gavin Lee and David Hyde Pierce out either. All three men got rave reviews durring their respective previous productions, however, not winning, being active in the community for years and playing one of the most challenging roles for a male in a musical (and playing it very well) gives him the edge.
Wanna Be a Foster-There is no chance that Matt Caplan will be nominated. While High Fidelity has a small cast, his role would not be considered featured. So I wouldn't hold your breath.

If Edward Hibbert isn't at least nominated for feautured, I'll cry.
tyler hanes!!!!!
Literally 9 months away.
Wait--Brian D'Arcy James has been cast in The Apple Tree? Is this speculation or fact?

Noone in HIgh Fidelity will be nominated in the male category except for Will Chase -- that is my prediction.
I think Martin Short will possibly be nominated in the leading male category. It all depends on where he wants to be nominated. If he goes for special event he will win. If he gets a leading male nomination he has a lesser chance of winning but that may be the category he wants to be in.
he is amazing in the show but he is also in a cast of 6 people who have solos and the show is really a very ORIGINAL musical so...technically, it is a musical and not a special event.
However, the Tony nominating committee may also decide to give him a special Tony as they did for Sarah Jones last year.
In terms of Supporting Actor categories Brooks Ashmanskas may get nominated from Marty Short if they play it that way.
I believe it is fact Baritone. I'm pretty positive it was announced last week.

When was it announced that Christian Borle will be in Legally Blonde?

After seeing the show in its first week of previews, I would say put good money on Hadley Fraser in the lead category, as well as Marcus Chait in featured for Pirate Queen. Although reviews thus far make it clear the show has some serious work to do, the performances are powerful, specific and very well sung. And I wouldn't count out Youmans or McCarthy either (not to mention Steph! but we're talking about the boys. which I enjoy! a lot.)
