I like it as well, It seems like they went with a completely different approach then from previous years, In a way it seems more modern yet simple.
Let's see how they develop it. Right now, I'm not real impressed; it's the kind of simple Photoshop work that could be knocked off in about a half an hour with breaking too much of a sweat. But the test will be to see how it works in larger, hopefully more complex layouts.
If a show reveals their artwork and no one says it looks like it was created by a high schooler with Photoshop, is that akin to going into the theatre and saying Macbeth?
"it's the kind of simple Photoshop work that could be knocked off in about a half an hour with breaking too much of a sweat."
If that's true, then good for them! That's what modern technology is for~
Would your criterion be that's it's only good if someone spent weeks sweating over it?
Makes me nervous. Feel like it's going to topple over.
@ Jane:
No, I'd like to see something with a bit more *concept* behind it. This is a stack of letters with minus leading, thrown through a couple of filters (I can even tell you which ones, if you're interested), with a bit of brush-n-blur behind them. I'm sorry, is there some visual concept here? At all?
Maybe it shows up in the larger poster versions. One can only hope.
It does seem a little too plain for the TONY AWARDS, needs more glamour, then again I'm not a fan of modern aesthetics.
" I'm sorry, is there some visual concept here? At all? "
Yes, I think there's a perfect visual concept. There's the award, symbolized by the letters, on a fully lit stage. I don't agree with the use of the four letters, though. I agree with Playbilly in that they look about to tumble. But as far as the concept, yes I like it very much. I just wish there was something else there instead of the letters.
We see what we want to see, I suppose. I've seen the award itself so many times that this just didnt read that way to me.
"We see what we want to see, I suppose."
Nah, this ain't Tolstoy, it isn't as deep as all that. I saw what I saw whether I wanted to or not.
Really up-to-date. The logo needed an update to market in the 21st century.
Broadway
I don't like or dislike it. It just 'is".
I'm not sure that anyone thinks that a new "up-to-date" logo (whatever that means) is going to get more folks to watch the awards.
I'm just grateful they are still televised.

As did I.
Reminds me of some celebrity cologne.

Meh. If I wasn't already predisposed to watch, this wouldn't sway me. No theatricality or urgency or fun to it.
