Gigi, All depends on the reviews at the Kennedy Center but likely going into a Nederlander house (Rodgers?)

I wouldn't be surprised to see Leanne Cope or Robert Fairchild sneak in there.

Chita will win. If this is her "last Broadway engagement", she will win. They ignored her for 25 years between BIRDIE and THE RINK, and if they don't reward her again, even if she is up against Kelli O'Hara, shame on them. She's Chita F*cking Rivera.

Exactly, that's why they are bringing in The Visit with Chita for a limited engagement...this will be her last show and TONY win!

The Chita v. Kelli thing is going to be one of the most interesting races of the spring (with, possibly, Kristen as a spoiler). Kelli is, no question, overdue - and ordinarily this could come down as a kind of replay of the Katie Finneran v. Anegla Lansbury race a few years back, where the younger up-and-comer beat the veteran legend for supporting actress in a musical. But a) that was in a supporting race, and b) Lansbury had won just the previous year for supporting actress in a play. It's been more than 20 years since Chita's last Tony. If the role a) is truly a star turn, and b) is truly billed as her farewell to Broadway... well, I'd say that's going to have to be one hell of a revelatory performance Kelli turns in. After last spring I would've said no way will Kelli O'Hara ever go home empty-handed at the Tony Awards for a SIXTH time... but considering that even in his mixed review of the show at Williamstown Ben Brantley said that Rivera's performance defined "the essence of star power"... I'd be a little nervous if I were Kelli. This feels like it could well be a valedictory lap come awards time, and even without seeing the performance yet it's hard to imagine Chita doesn't deserve it.

Is it official the Visit is coming??? I didn't hear that! The thing is, Kelli O'Hara is so fantastic it's a shame she's had to wait so long, but Chita in the Visit will be hard to beat. I'm also pretty excited for Krischen in 20th Century, but she hasn't been nominated for her last two shows (Apple Tree being particularly depressing). Vanessa Hudgens winning a Tony would make Merman roll over in her grave.

While I imagine Rivera would be the heavy favorite, should The Visit actually transfer, I think that anointing O'Hara was a bit short-sighted, since I imagine a strongly-directed Chenoweth in On the Twentieth Century could be nigh on unbeatable. (Of course, with weak direction, Chenoweth could be terrible.)

We'll have to wait and see it first before deciding. As of now, maybe a nomination or two for one of the actors. Updated On: 12/10/14 at 12:24 PM

My theater sources inform me that a Shubert theater should be set by this Friday and an announcement mid-December.
Yes, it is coming but not officially announced.

Let's not forget that Michael Riedel also predicted that both Newsies & Bullets Over Broadway were going to sweep the Tony Awards...

To be fair no one on here is saying The Visit will win Best Musical.

While way too early to speculate, if I had to go on a hunch I personally think it's shaping up to be a year when the spoils are divided, but with Fun Home winning Best Musical and Best Score (sorry to those pulling for Sting, and I'm one of the show's fans) and very possibly Best Book (though I suppose McNally could win here). Meanwhile though, The King and I should beat 20th Century and Side Show for Best Revival, Chita will have the edge for Best Actress (while duking it out with Kelli and Kristen), Michael Cerveris probably close to a lock for Best Actor (though don't count out Peter Gallagher - unlike 2-time winner Cerveris he's never won before, and the original production won John Cullum a Tony), An American in Paris could easily win for Choreography, and the Best Director race seems wide open (probably between Bartlett Sher, who's won before, and Sam Gold, who hasn't... Wheeldon as a dark horse if that show proves to be incredible, and John Doyle and Scott Ellis as wild cards).

I simply don't see Finding Neverland, Honeymoon in Vegas, It Coulda Been You or Dr Zhivago being major players at Tony time, at least in terms of likely winners - but I'd be thrilled to be proved wrong, since the more hits we have the better. That's just an early hunch, though, 6 months in advance - feel free to say where you disagree.

Maybe I need to give it another listen, but I wasn't all too impressed with Fun Home's score. It seems like a great show, but I found the score to be mostly uninteresting, with some exceptions (Ring of Keys in particular).

If Kinky Boots' decent pop score can win over Matilda's incredible, genius score just because of Cindy Lauper, then I can definitely see The Last Ship's beautiful score (combined with Sting's status) winning over Fun Home's decent score. Maybe I'll feel differently about Fun Home's score after I see it, though.

Cerveris, "Fun Home" Best Actor in a Musical.

I mean, people like John Kander and Chita are such pros that they don't care, but **IF** THE VIST comes in, I think it will win Best Score and Actress for somewhat sentimental reasons, but also because it's a good score, and likely to be a great performance. And I was pulling for FUN HOME, too.

It's interesting that Cerveris is brought up for Best Actor. I certainly think he should win, but let's see what happens. I mean, honestly, the Tonys mean very little to me lately. It's the work that counts. (Call me pretentious!)
