I definitely don't like the idea of dubbing people "the new" or "____ equivalent of" but I can't deny that my first and only thought was Sutton as well.

There is no equivalent of Gwen Verdon.. She was unigue. Nobody ever had the quirkiness of Ms. Verdon and the dance chops of Ms. Verdon.
No other Charity came close to what she did.

When I think Gwen I also think of Chita. Neither can be duplicated or replaced. If I had to pick anyone who comes close to them at this point in time, for me, 3 names come to mind. Sutton Foster, Charlotte d'Amboise and Karen Olivo. JMO
