2018 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade- Who gets to perform?

Update: oh wait, I just saw you’re only seeing 50% of MFL too. I’m confused."
Sorry for confusion. My trip to NYC was for two reasons, to see My Fair Lady and The Cher Shows. That’s what I meant by 50/50, sorry.
Anyway I got up there two hours ago to catch 8am flight and said why am I bothering. The Cher Show I can catch next summer and My Fair Lady looks dreadful.
So i’m now back in bed, flights cancelled, hotel cancelled. It was too weak a season I don’t know why I booked in the first place.

Posted: 11/23/18 at 2:42amAh, I’m sorry. I’ll admit MFL was far from my favorite in June. And while The Cher Show has growing appeal for me, I agree it’ll wait. There are a lot of Broadway plays (plus the off-Broadway Fiddler) I’d like to see, but current finances prevent it, but there is a slight chance my work might send me to NYC early next year. Anyway, sounds like you made the adult decision which isn’t always easy, but often necessary. I had to cancel an April 2018 Tokyo trip (woulda been my first trip to Asia - I’d been planning it for a year). I was gutted. But then I got to see lots of great theater in June so that helped make up for it.

A conservative group claims ''The Prom's'' lesbian kiss on the Macy's Parade has ''broken the innocence'' of ''millions of small children.'' Twitter users answered with love (and withering wit) …

Thanks Miles, you’re right often the hard decision is the best. I just couldn’t muster up the enthusiasm to go this morning at 5am.
I have Company, Caroline or Change and All About Eve in the West End in February and I’m travelling to Dublin to see the European premiere of Come From Away Next month so all good.
ill definitely be over to NYC for Stonewall 50 next year and hopefully if I can get the MoulinRouge site to work I’ll get a preview ticket and hopefully The Cher Show will still be running.

The homophobes are out in full force on the YouTube posts of The Prom performance. There’s even a 20 minute video about how Satan created the show. Comparing the performance to pornography and saying it’s traumatized children.
Bitches be crazy.

And let us guess who they voted for in 2016. Disgusting.

I keep going meta and wondering if the controversy was partly planned by the show producers for publicity and to extend the run. (of a show where the Broadway folks use a small town controversy to extend their careers)

Delete the link of that video.
The more views/attention it gets, the more money it makes.

I’ve thought the same thing. I’m sure they don’t mind the attention.

Scrolling through Twitter, I've seen just as many people say that they're "boycotting Macy's for such a horrible political stunt," as I have seen people say that they "didn't know The Prom existed, but want to buy tickets ASAP."
I think they knew it'd get attention is the big takeaway, and I'm really glad they performed and, well, "went there" like others have said. I hope this keeps their grosses moving upwards over the course of the next few weeks! :)

Yes there are crazy people in the world but there are millions who saw it and had no problem with it, this is after all 2018. BTW - I was watching the parade with my family including my nephew and his children. (ages 7 and 15) The children were not traumatized (lol) and did not even mention the kiss.

The My Fair Lady song was awful. The accents. She didn't get across that she was mocking the upper class people at the Opera house or it didn't sound aspirational.
What journey does Eliza go on if this is how she starts?"
I've never thought of that song as mocking them, it's an early version of the "I Want" song. At least that's how I've always interpreted it. Still have to play your character honestly, and genuine "want" is the way to do it. But let's be honest these performances are to sell more tickets, and that's all. But I'm 1000% with you on the accents....for being Laura's #1 dream role of all time, I'm shocked at how bad her accent was. I was perfectly willing to wait and see Laura finally knock this off her bucket list, but that one did NOTHNG to make me want to see it anymore, it did the exact opposite. I still love her anyway, regardless.

Having watched all the performances now on both shows, really the only one that I thought did well was Head Over Heels. I'll be honest, as much as I love The Prom and "the moment" I almost forgot it happened because of the too-much-choreography of the actual number. Can someone tell Casey Nicholaw it doesn't always have to be at an 11?

It is the finale of the show-it's the place where it's appropriate for Casey to go an 11.
It's worth noting that, as soon as Vasthy mentioned the kiss online on Monday night, I knew that this would probably insight quite a bit of reaction, both for and against, online. And my thoughts have been proven exactly. I went and saw the show again yesterday afternoon, and found Dori, their lead producer, at intermission, to thank her and the team for doing what they did on the parade. She stressed that it's from the support of NBC and Macy's that this was able to happen, so go support those companies this weekend.
Some people I've pitched the one-line descriptor of the show to have shrugged it off, questioning if the plot is still relevant. The Interweb's reaction to the parade performance shows just how important, and still relevant, the message of this show is.

Posted: 11/24/18 at 1:37pmThe prom should have picked another number. I mean they picked it so the kiss would be live, but they should have done The acceptance song if they wanted to share a good message. But hey, people are talking about the prom now haha

I understand what the song is about I was just trying understand what Laura was trying to do because the accents were all over the place. It definitely put me off. For the introduction to the character heck the opening number it had little passion.
I don’t know maybe it was just out of context and not in the theatre. I’d love to see a revival of MFL but I’m really glad I didn’t pay $200 for a ticket.

Laura's accent isn't perfect, but her acting and singing are sensational. Definitely worth seeing.
It's clear to me that Lincoln Center didn't get her a dialect coach which is disappointing, especially because her performance is so phenomenal.

Posted: 11/25/18 at 12:00amIn defense of Laura’s accent, it’s much stronger and more pronounced when she’s speaking. It lightens up a lot when she’s singing because of her technique and where the song sits in her voice. Which isn’t unrealistic as a lot of people’s accents fade when they’re singing. One real life example that comes to mind is Adele.

The View had a conversation about "The Prom" performance for a good 3-5 minutes. No such thing as bad press no?
