It was a politically biased move by the Voters, as was the entire night as they exiled every new musical (as they always do) except one. Denise should've won this without a doubt, and that's why she's my biggest snub of the night. (And yes, I've seen both performances.)"

Actually, she's Laurie Metcalf. :)

not sure snub but how did Mean Girls ever get a nomination for best costumes?? They are basically in street clothes.

Once on this Island should've been nominated for, and should've won Best Choreography. Carousel's is pretty but tells not story and often just gets in the way.

Also, Alex Newell and Kenita Miller were missed in the supporting categories. I probably would've given the Tony to Kenita actually. It's such a heartfelt performance.

Also, Mean Girls shouldn't have been nominated for costumes. Frozen or even The Band's Visit should've made it in instead.

Also, Denise Gough should've won. Both Laurie and Gough were great, but I loved Gough's Harper.

Anyone who actually saw Catherine Zeta-Jones in the show knows she was better than Montego Glover. Glover can sing but there was no nuance to that performance. Christiane Noll, Kate Baldwin & Sherie Rene Scott were all better regardless.

I don't know how much Mr. Prince had done on THE BAND'S VISIT, but I saw the 2nd preview off-Broadway and immediately fell in love with it.  David Cromer is a wonderful director, as is Michael Arden.  Both deserved to be there and both work WAS recognized.

Dead on.

Now, what exactly do you think the requirements are for best costumes?  Asking for a friend.

on their website they have tickets for sale until july 2019 so I don't think they'll be closing any time soon!

I think Denise Gough and Susan Brown split the vote and that got Metcalf her second Tony.

Frozen was snubbed at least on a costume design & orchestration nomination. I haven't seen every show in either category so I can't say for sure that I think they should have won, but they were at least snubbed on both of those nominations. I love Tina Fey and wanted to see Mean Girls do well, but how did it get a costume nomination over Frozen? Teenage street clothes vs. a hand-beaded dress and that reindeer costume? Nah, Frozen for sure deserved at least a nomination. Also, I think Tonys should have smacked Caissie Levy in the face as they rained down from the heavens after her Tony performance. That girl can SANG!

^In addition, the scenic design is glorious and the lighting design had a great mix of warm/cold lighting. Cassie was rob of a nomination because of the competition. Because she’s barely in Act 1, Disney should had marketed Cassie as featured actress for the award season. She would have possibly dominated the award season. Patti should had been nominated as well.

"

They were at a 107% of gross potential and grossed over $1.5 million last week. With numbers like that they can give a 2 handed salute to the Tonys.
