Was in my Broadway in Boston account the other day making my payments, and noticed that after Hello Dolly in August (our last 18/19 show) and right afterwards Cats appeared. I looked at their tour and it ends in Hershey PA on August 25, which is when it said it opened in Boston. I checked again recently and it was taking down. So, 2nd year of the Cats tour and a confirmed Boston stop?

CATS is definitely a multi-year tour. 

Honolulu has announced for those keeping track. This is their first (ever?) broadway series... they've gotten the occasional one-at-a-time bookings in the past of bigger shows (Wicked, Lion King, etc) every few years but never a subscription season with more than one show lined up. So this is exciting for the touring world.

Spongebob and Waitress will both be going out non-union next season.

It was a big flop, whatever you think of the show, so not much surprise to me to be honest.

How do sets for something like Phantom get there? I'm guessing they have to charter a freight plane?

Ive done a few shows that have gone there. One was flown but most are put on ships. That’s why most tours have breaks in their schedule of a few weeks on either end of playing there usually.

It depends on how much/little time they have. They can fly everything over and treat it like any other tour stop (save for adding a day on each end for crossloading on the tarmac); or what has also happened in the past is to lay off the tour for a week or two while things ship over, and the tour closes in Hawaii.

Indeed. None of the tours I’ve gone to Hawaii with have closed there. Usually it’s a brief layoff to get back to the mainland.

BoM Latter Day closed in HI, and Cats closed a leg of its non-Eq tour there several years back, if I recall correctly (though that was done primarily with a jump package).

Correct. With CATS it didn't technically 'close' though. One leg ended, but Troika had it back out with a new set within a few months. The plan was always to leave that set there and resume touring with a new set on the mainland (wasn't this the transition to the inflatable set?). I believe a friend on that tour told me it was done so that they could return to Hawaii eventually and already have a set there. 

I never said tours DON'T end there, but most that have gone haven't. The Canadian Phantom tour ended there, about 25 years ago. 

Some shows (mostly non-eq) have also used Hawaii as a halfway point when going to/from Asia on rare occasions.

No official announcement here, but, if the past two years are any indication, we're about two months away from our first season announcements for the 19/20 season! Seattle's been one of the first locations to announce, having done so on Jan 9 (17/18) and recently on Jan 4 (18/19). Prior to that, however, they've had mid-February and mid-March announcements, so who knows?

I'd also expect Boston to maybe get Anastasia, Fiddler and a re-scheduled Bat Out Of Hell.

You’re assuming BAT will happen. It very well could but I wouldn’t bet on it personally. The likelihood of most presenters picking it up after seeing how poorly it was selling and how badly the cancellation was handled is probably slim.

According to "bookinggroup.com" Avenue Q is going on tour. That would be great. Not as many people have gotten to see the musical like other long running shows that have had tours running for years. Hope it comes to the LA area.

I know from the BAA surveys that I received back in April and June, they had Avenue Q and the following revival shows under consideration that are currently not touring:

The Wiz, Hairspray, Oklahoma, The Secret Garden, Carousel, Young Frankenstein, Dreamgirls, Crazy For You, and 1776

Under the category of new musicals, they had Summer, Prince of Broadway, and Rocktopia among the other shows that are or will be touring. 

I personally am not aware of any of these shows' plans, although several show up on booking company websites. So maybe we'll see some sort of announcements made at the beginning of the new year.

Is it likely that after the Buckley tour ends, DOLLY will go back out as a non-equity tour?

Or find another star? They haven't played a lot of the secondary markets yet.

As a small update to the Bat Out Of Hell schedule, I received word that the original dates in St. Paul (12-23 June) and Dallas (27 June-7 July) are still accurate. And, from another person's post, the new date for the D.C. stop is 10-27 July. After D.C., the New York City Center stop (30 July-22 Sep), which was previously announced, is still a go.
