I'm happy too, but politics are real. The omission of the Scarecrow (Phillip) and Tinman (Kyle) is wild. They sang way more than Deborah and Wayne on that album.
Curious why there are no vocalists included for The Notebook or Suffs.
The principal vocalist thing is always such a mess. They need to do away with whatever the max number is right now. Remember when the entire principal casts of Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen won the awards? It should go back to that as it’s more fair. (Look at The Wiz nominating its more famous cast members than actual principal vocalists.) Additionally, music department heads should automatically be included, akin to conductors or accompanists being nominated for classical music recordings.
This is all beside the point, though. Congrats to this group of albums!
I think HK or Merrily are the most likely--certainly I'm expecting Alicia to campaign for it. Also surprised at the exclusion of Stereophonic, as that would've been my personal pick.
The Grammys allow show albums to name up to 4 principal vocalists, so it seems a shame that ''The Notebook'' and ''Suffs'' apparently chose not to name any.
It would've been a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their own artists and give them some Grammy recognition (to add to their respective bios).
In ''The Notebook,'' the younger and middle Noahs and Allies sing the bulk of Ingrid Michaelson's score, so I would've nominated John Cardoza, Jordan Tyson, Ryan Vasquez and Joy Woods as principal vocalists. Though Mary Plunkett and Dorian Harewood were Tony-nominated, they don't sing nearly as much. ... For ''Suffs,'' I might've gone with Jenn Colella, Nikki M. James, Emily Skinner and Shaina Taub, even though Taub is already nominated as lyricist/composer.
Finally, ''The Sound of Music: Super Deluxe Edition'' is a Grammy Award nominee for Best Historical Album.

There's a chance the show hasn't decided who the named principal vocalists will be. Last year when the nominations were announced Kimberly Akimbo and Schucked didn't have anyone listed.
''There's a chance the show hasn't decided who the named principal vocalists will be.''
That's a fair point. Maybe the names are coming. But I assumed the record company had to fill out a form in order to be on the Grammy ballot. The nomination lists the producers and the writers, and 4 out of the 6 nominees named their principals, so why not ''Notebook'' and ''Suffs''? The day the Tony nominations are announced is when you get maximum coverage. Why the delay? Makes no sense.
Looking back at last year, ''Kimberly Akimbo'' listed only ONE principal vocalist: Victoria Clark. It was the only show to list only one. Would it have killed them to include Bonnie Milligan, a Tony winner, and Justin Cooley, a Tony nominee, too?
I'd imagine the two top contenders are ''Hell's Kitchen'' and ''Merrily We Roll Along.'' The former is a jukebox musical by 16-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys. The latter, if you include ''West Side Story'' and ''Gypsy,'' is a Sondheim show, and his shows have won this Musical Theater Grammy 11 times.
Then again, who knows? ''The Wiz'' won the 1976 Grammy in this category, beating out ''Chicago'' and ''A Chorus Line.''

The Gatsby recording is not mixed well from a technical standpoint and while I like the show, the recording doesn’t capture the fullness or clarity a modern show should have on record. Outsiders definitely is a clearer, better mixed and mastered recording. I’d like to think the technical merits of the recording are predominantly being judged, although realistically, anytime a crossover pop artist has a show on Bway it will be the front runner. Deborah Cox is an industry stalwart and helped The Wiz get its nom (let’s face it - the score will never sound better than the Quincy Jones film soundtrack). Alicia Keys being a Grammy darling herself has this Grammy in Jan Maxwell’s bag this year I think.
I agree the omission of the Tin Man (Philip) and The Lion (Kyle Freeman) which contributed to over 50% of the albums vocal performance as a part of the 4 main characters along with Dorothy(Nichelle) and The Scarecrow (Avery) is very political and suspect. While Wayne Brady and Deborah Cox were the headliners (Star names) they only each contributed maybe 20% vocally to the show, they each has 2 numbers and Deborah has two because she took Addapearl's song. The even omitted the actress who played Evilene (Melody Betts) who was the best part of the show. The arrangements and Orchestrations were the best part of this revival so I am happy that they are nominated
I will be curious to see how this all pans out. Suffs, Merrily, The Outsiders and HK all have great scores. But in terms of best production of a recorded version of the musicals. Only a few standout as a recorded album. Congrats to all the Nominee though
There is nothing in the world better than Live Theater.
