I am going to see 3 shows this summer on B'way.
What would be good ones?
One show I chose is Phantom of the opera. (love it to death)
is Tarzan worth seeing? or no?

SWEENEY TODD, JERSEY BOYS, THE HISTORY BOYS.
TARZAN is horrendous...do not see it.

Maybe!
I might see Beauty and the beast maybe but I doubt it.
Sweeney Todd maybe? also maybe Jersey Boys
re: 3 shows this summer#5
Posted: 6/21/06 at 1:13pmDo not see BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. From what I read, you've already seen it on tour, and the current Broadway production leaves a lot to be desired.
re: 3 shows this summer#6
Posted: 6/21/06 at 1:14pmI would recommend 'Drowsy Chaperone' and 'Spelling Bee'.
re: 3 shows this summer#7
Posted: 6/21/06 at 1:16pmIf you're going by July 2, Piazza, if not, Color Purple and Drowsy.
re: 3 shows this summer#8
Posted: 6/21/06 at 1:34pmDIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS and PIAZZA if you're going before July 2nd. If after the 2nd, DRS and SWEENY TODD.

if you're going to see PHANTOM of the OPERA while you're there and that's a definite choice...
then i'm banking your other choices are probably going to be something along the lines of DISNEY related.

I am not that into Disney though lol.
I saw Beauty and the beast this month mainly to see Brad Little who I miss already after seeing the show sunday, saw it 3 times.
Not the tour though where the beast rises up for the transformation!

Avoid Tarzan. The Disney animated film is exciting and I was eager to see it on stage. I was very disappointed. It was boring. Tarzan spends most of his time hunched over dragging his knuckles across the stage instead of racing along branches and swinging from vines. The set is a green blob and the music forgettable.
Skip Beauty & the Beast on stage. Buy the DVD.
See Phantom in Vegas for a change.
See Sweeney Todd if LuPone is in.
Drowsy Chaperone is also a winner.

Why not go see something different if you've already seen Phantom?
I would suggest Wedding Singer, Drowsy Chaperone and Spelling Bee. They were all great. (especially Wedding and Drowsy!)
re: 3 shows this summer#14
Posted: 6/21/06 at 3:18pmIf you have already seen a production of a show on Broadway in another format (tour, regional production), then I say try to see some new shows, unless you absolutely have to see it on Broadway.

I am obsessed with Phantom of the opera and love to see new phantoms.
So far I have seen Brad Little, Gary Mauer and Hugh Panaro!
6 times I have seen the show!

Jersey Boys, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Color Purple, Chicago, Rent or Wicked.
Skip Beauty and the Beast.
re: 3 shows this summer#17
Posted: 6/21/06 at 8:45pmDirty Rotten Scoundrels guaruntees you a great time! I highly recommend it. For the other show, definitely see Jersey Boys.
re: 3 shows this summer#18
Posted: 6/21/06 at 8:48pmI'd say Sweeney Todd, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Jersey Boys.

If you can't make a decision like this for yourself, I can only wonder how things will go on your honeymoon.
Geeze!

I fail to see any purpose in "What should I see" threads. Unless you have a "I like these type of shows, but I cannot stand these type of shows, and the person I will be going with likes pretty chorus boys" for us to go on, you might as well be saying, "What are a few must-see shows on Broadway right now?" And that can easily be discovered by exploring the board.
Thank you.
re: 3 shows this summer#22
Posted: 6/21/06 at 10:03pmTake a breather from Phantom. I echo everyone else who says to go see THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA if you're going before it closes. I also recommend SWEENEY TODD, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, and AVENUE Q.
re: 3 shows this summer#23
Posted: 6/21/06 at 10:33pmDrowsy, if your going to be in New York and you want to see a really really amazing show, you need to see this one

I say:
Avenue Q
Drowsy
Spelling Bee
More than likely you won't get Jersey Boys tickets. I tried for mid-August when I will be home from college (and for the 4 days I would be able to go- it was all sold out)
