I'm not saying they are deities of any sort, just that, unlike us, they receive special privileges in life that we do not.

@JM I've been arguing for government funded programs :/ i keep having to repeat what I'm saying over and over as people keep arguing the same arguments that I've already addressed

And I don't think celebrities should get extra privileges, sue me

ANewBrainn said: "Maybe start licensing the show

Maybe release a recording of the production already, while it's not the same as seeing it live it will make the production more accessible to people who can't make it to new york.  That would also sell like hotcakes and would not affect their ticket sales at all really because a recording is not the same as live theatre.

Maybe not put their new premium tickets up for over $800

Maybe enforcing a stricter paperless ticket policy and stopping TM and other sites from doing their resale bull****

Maybe drawing the line and not allowing a celebrity to see a show 16 times while people have been waiting all night on the cancellation line.

Thank you ANewBrainn, thank you so much for turning this thread into your very own personal BITCH & MOAN fest.

Sucks to be you.

I've brought you some crying towels along with some wood and some nails...

@Carlos

Hey, I am not the only person perpetuating this argument.  I said one thing and multiple people attacked me.  Many people have engaged me on this issue and at this point I'm defending myself.

'To go or not to go' that is the question and is simple as that.

Hamilton is being fed ATM by locals and tourists so think of the millions yet to sit at that table-this particular art form will eventually be in a theatre near you-so wait.

It's nice that ANewBrainn should feel so passionately for the unfortunate but this cause is a lost one--enjoy the hype and the benefits of the ancillary $s spread all over because the $s coming out of just ONE building DAILY is enormous.

Broadway is- by and large- a venue for commercial entertainment.

There is a great deal of accessible theatre, supported by local and federal governments or through grants or private donations, throughout the city and country.

They are separate things.

It is not the moral imperative of Broadway creators to make their shows accessible to everyone. If they choose to take their property to Broadway, their duty is to have it make money.

Your beef with Hamilton is totally quixotic and naïve.

Oh.....oh my God.  What is wrong with you?!?  Broadway is a BUSINESS and they want to make as much MONEY as possible.  That is the point of a business.  People who can afford to see Hamilton see Hamilton.  The end.

Oh, and this is an alternative if you simply can't get in the room where it happens.  Should be entertaining!

Hmmm, I did not see that. So now this dude is hating on people because they have they resources to be able to see the show as many times as they damn well please?!?!?

What is up with that?

So you basically wouldn't have a problem if Mariska Hargitay saw "The Lion King" 16 times, but you have a problem with her seeing "Hamilton" 16 times?

I don't get it.

She's seeing a show 16 times, and paying for her tickets out of her own pocket, so how is this affecting you in your everyday life that you feel she should be limited the amount of times she sees a show she is paying for out of her own pocket.

I've seen "Hamilton" a total of five times. Each time I've paid out of my own pocket, so now you're going to feel I should be limited the times I go see it even though I have the resources to go and pay for a ticket with my hard earned money?

You've got be friggin' kidding me with this, right?

It's great that you're idealistic and idk your age or line of work but hopefully you can do something to get your goals in motion for the future. You don't have to keep defending yourself bc you have heard 20 similar responses and we have heard yours. You aren't going to flip your position or vice verse. I'd encourage you to seek out like minded people who are also interested in widening the accessibility of things.

But, since you likely aren't REALLY gone, here's something to consider.

A show can't sell their tickets for 35 bucks a pop.  They couldn't pay their bills.  According to a NYT article, this show's running  costs are approximately 650k a week.....JUST TO BREAK EVEN.  That equals about 63 dollars a ticket.  And that's so they don't LOSE money.

Do I think ticket prices are too high?  Yes.  I seldom pay full price, but your idyllic and utopian model just doesn't add up.

^^^^ I agree but the poster sounds young and well intentioned so why stomp reality into him anymore than we have? Life will do it naturally. :) La Vie Boheme!

Wow, only 650 dollars a week, what an affordable show!

lol we would each need to pay $6.30 per ticket for them to break even if it cost $650!

ANewBrainn said: " Most people in this country cannot afford a $177 ticket including myself."

I actually can afford a $177 ticket but I choose not to because I think that's a ridiculous price for a show. I never paid that much for any show I've seen and I've seen a lot of shows.

Again who cares who sees the show and how many times they see it. It's their money and they can spend it how they want to.
