I don't know if this has been posted recently - but have you all seen the poll on the official Tony site:

You>http://www.tonyawards.com/en_US/interactive/vote/index.html>http://www.tonyawards.com/en_US/interactive/vote/index.html
You vote for the 5 best/most important broadway musical theatre songs since 1949. They basically attempt to choose a best song for each year in which a show was awarded best musical and you pick 5 from there. The poll was very difficult and I had trouble deciding between favorites and best - if you get my drift. Some of the greatest numbers were discluded: Everything's Coming Up Roses, All That Jazz, Tonight, etc. - because they weren't awarded the Best Musical Tony.
Good Luck - I actually sat there for 20 minutes trying to choose one over the other!
My 5:
Cabaret
the Impossible Dream (the Quest)
Being Alive
Lullaby of Broadway
Tomorrow

Of all the songs from Sweeney, they chose "Not While I'm Around"? Come on. What about "The Worst Pies in London" or "A Little Priest"?
Eh, whatever. I went for "Seasons of Love" as my 5th choice instead. I didn't particularly like the musical, but I have a soft spot for that song.
that was fun...and it killed about 2 and a half minutes of work time!
so what did you girls choose
I did:
Cabaret- Cabaret
Seasons of Love- RENT
Impossible Dream- MoLM
Don't Cry For Me Argentina- Evita
Lullaby of Broadway- 42nd Street
So In Love
I Believe in You
Being Alive
Memory
All I Ask of You

I voted the other day for just my favorite:
Being Alive from Company
I think I voted for:
The Impossible Dream
When Did I Fall In Love
Being Alive
So In Love
A little Bit in Love
A little bit in Love - really? I'm surprised redhot. what makes you think this is worthy? not a critique - just curious!
Its just a wonderful song - really sweet and very easy to get in your head and stay there...I love Julie Andrews' version best of all.
This was a toughie.
I wrestled with "A Little Bit in Love" also, because I love Audra McDonald's version so much (from the Leonard Bernstein's New York CD). I ended up not choosing it because I can still hear Jennifer Westfeldt's uninspired version in my head, unfortunately. I know it's supposed to be for the song itself ... but, hey, it's my vote!
Here are my five:
Hey There from THE PAJAMA GAME
Look Who's in Love from REDHEAD
Unusual Way from NINE
Moonfall from THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD
Loving You from PASSION
Forget About the Boy is a theme song for my life. I chose it.
I think I picked:
So in Love
Cabaret
The Impossible Dream
Hey There
Someone to watch over me
Memory
Mr. Mistoffolees
Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat
Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats
Macavity the Mystery Cat
....right
none of the songs there are my top favoirte songs. I just had to pick the ones i liked best
I really hate to put anything really. It depends on how many times ive heard the song in the past few weeks. I am on a three year hiatus from Les mis. Hoping that some day i will enjoy it agian. Played the stupid thing to much.
It was a tough choice! I picked:
So In Love
The Sound of Music
Being Alive
I Dreamed a Dream
Seasons of Love
Send in the Clowns - A Little Night Music
Being Alive - Company
The Sound of Music - The Sound of Music
Forget About the Boy - Thoroughly Modern Millie
Seasons of Love - Rent
Yeah, i still don't know if I completely agree with my choices, I was on the fence with a lot of songs.
That was tougher than I thought it would be! So many amazing songs in Sweeney Todd and they picked Not While I'm Around? OH well, still a pretty good song. Here's my picks!
5. Not While I'm Around~ Sweeney Todd
4. Seasons of Love~ RENT
3. All I Ask of You~ Phantom of the Opera
2. Cabaret~ Cabaret
1. The Impossible Dream (The Quest)~ Man of La Mancha
very tough choices...
mine were Tomorrow, What I Did For Love, Seasons of Love, The Best of Times, although it is an outrage that "I Am What I Am" wasn't picked from La Cage, and I can't remember my 5th choice.
Also-it's been narrowed down to the top five.
yes. i am fuming that they did that.
ugh.
