5 Best Songs of all-time

I don't know if this has been posted recently - but have you all seen the poll on the official Tony site:

http://www.tonyawards.com/en_US/interactive/vote/index.html

You>http://www.tonyawards.com/en_US/interactive/vote/index.html>http://www.tonyawards.com/en_US/interactive/vote/index.html

You vote for the 5 best/most important broadway musical theatre songs since 1949. They basically attempt to choose a best song for each year in which a show was awarded best musical and you pick 5 from there. The poll was very difficult and I had trouble deciding between favorites and best - if you get my drift. Some of the greatest numbers were discluded: Everything's Coming Up Roses, All That Jazz, Tonight, etc. - because they weren't awarded the Best Musical Tony.

Good Luck - I actually sat there for 20 minutes trying to choose one over the other!

My 5:

Cabaret
the Impossible Dream (the Quest)
Being Alive
Lullaby of Broadway
Tomorrow

re: 5 Best Songs of all-time

Of all the songs from Sweeney, they chose "Not While I'm Around"? Come on. What about "The Worst Pies in London" or "A Little Priest"?

Eh, whatever. I went for "Seasons of Love" as my 5th choice instead. I didn't particularly like the musical, but I have a soft spot for that song.

re: 5 Best Songs of all-time

that was fun...and it killed about 2 and a half minutes of work time!
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" re: 5 Best Songs of all-time

Its just a wonderful song - really sweet and very easy to get in your head and stay there...I love Julie Andrews' version best of all.

re: 5 Best Songs of all-time

This was a toughie.

I wrestled with "A Little Bit in Love" also, because I love Audra McDonald's version so much (from the Leonard Bernstein's New York CD). I ended up not choosing it because I can still hear Jennifer Westfeldt's uninspired version in my head, unfortunately. I know it's supposed to be for the song itself ... but, hey, it's my vote!

Here are my five:

Hey There from THE PAJAMA GAME
Look Who's in Love from REDHEAD
Unusual Way from NINE
Moonfall from THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD
Loving You from PASSION
Itty Bitty Geisha? Toyland? Gypsy Pasadoble? Just a few popular favorites...

4. Seasons of Love~ RENT
3. All I Ask of You~ Phantom of the Opera
2. Cabaret~ Cabaret
1. The Impossible Dream (The Quest)~ Man of La Mancha

re: 5 Best Songs of all-time

very tough choices...

mine were Tomorrow, What I Did For Love, Seasons of Love, The Best of Times, although it is an outrage that "I Am What I Am" wasn't picked from La Cage, and I can't remember my 5th choice.

Also-it's been narrowed down to the top five.
