9 to 5 Short Review- 9/4/09

Wow! For being my first time seeing the show, I LOVED it! It was so great. The cast was on fire tonight. Stephanie J. Block is AMAZING along with Allison Janney and Megan Hilty. Although people were saying how Megan did a clone of Dolly, I loved it. Stephanie J. Block sang "Get Out and Stay Out" with so much passion. I got chills as soon as she started singing it. The sets are really nice and now I see why 14 million was spent on the show.

At the stage door, Megan, Stephanie, Marc, and Allison came out along with Kathy Fitzpatrick and a couple of ensemble. Megan said that she will most likely return to Wicked.

As far as merchandise, there really isn't much left. Dolly cd and keychain, a couple of t-shirts, windowcard, and cast albums are all that remain.

I had a blast and would have loved to catch it again if it wasn't closing.

I saw it a few weeks ago, and I absolutely loved it as well. Great performances from the three girls, I loved the sets... It was just a really fun show! I'm sad to see it closing.

Seeing it one last time tomorrow! So excited to see it, but sad to see it for the last time.

I feel so bad for Megan, she finally gets away from Wicked only to get pulled back in.

"For being my first time seeing the show, I LOVED it!"

I'm not sure of the connection between those two phrases.

She showed a lot of people who talented she is. She'll have other chances.

Dear God, I hope that's not true about Megan. I find it hard to believe that she can't land another role.

re: 9 to 5 Short Review- 9/4/09

Wicked is a steady (and decently-sized) paycheck. I'm sure Megan would prefer to return to the bubble (which allows her the time to audition for other projects, make some more television appearances, do workshops/readings of new material, etc.) rather than sit at home on the couch with no money coming in. If she had that much of a problem with going back to Wicked, I'm sure she wouldn't; she's probably made enough money from them alone that she could take some time off, if she really wanted to.

Honestly, if I was an actor and was offered to come back to Wicked after being recycled many times I would do it. They know the show won't close, their paycheck can really only go up, and you're staring in the most successful show on Broadway.

Please tell me she is doing the role on Broadway.

I forgot to put in my original post, but after White Christmas there is still a debate of what is going in according to one of the workers. Catch Me If You Can and Minsk's are both trying to get the theater.

Kendra is leaving the San Francisco production this November, I believe.

re: 9 to 5 Short Review- 9/4/09

Well, It's not Broadway because Erin just signed on. The L.A. production is closed, the 2nd national just got started, the First national tour just lost Katie Clarke and gained Swartz (sp?) So the only one I think think of is San Fran.
Formally Stews_Bitch::: Shows in the 2010 Season for me. 101 Dalmations tour - Jan 24th, Xanadu Tour - Mar 9th and 10th, Wicked - May 14th, Legally Blonde - June 12th:::::::Upcoming - South Pacific, Young Frankinstein (Two Cities) Rock of Ages (Two Cities) Shrek (3 Cities) Les Mis, DreamGirls, Spring Awakening, Color Purple, and 9 to 5!

re: 9 to 5 Short Review- 9/4/09

Yeah, San Fran... that's what I figured, especially since Megan also told someone she was planning on going back to California after the show closes. Ah well, I hope she returns to Broadway again soon (same for Stephanie and Allison).

I don't get it, most of the people who have seen it on these boards love the show. If they love it that much, why are the numbers so low? It is sad to see this show close. I really hope it has a tour stop near me.

re: 9 to 5 Short Review- 9/4/09

On these boards, some people seem to either love it or hate it. I honestly don't know why it didn't catch on with tourists and did better at least during the summer. It'll probably be better off on tour.

As flawed as it is, I enjoy it so much because it is tons of fun and very funny. My audience ate it up too. I love it in the same way as I love Legally Blonde, Xanadu, and Wicked. It's pure fun and a big crowd-pleaser.

Kendra is contracted for San Fran until January. Guess Megan could replace her then, but that's a big chunk of time off, and really Broadway is just as likely. I hope Megan stays in NYC because I loved her in 9 to 5, but honestly I never liked what I saw/heard of her Glinda (which is not much, and never in person). I'd give her a chance as pretty much anything based on 9 to 5, though.

Yeah, that WICKED is a career crusher.

I'm always fascinated by the pity shown actors who are offered a return to such an endeavor as a back-door career move. An actor like Hilty either gets a sitcom (lucky to launch those, especially now) or stays in the musical theater. WICKED remains a money machine, a talent showcase, and whatever anyone thinks of it, one of the mega-hits that audiences adore. To hang onto a role in it or get an invite back is just fine.

Anyone who's concerned, exhibit A: Marian Seldes, in the Guiness Book of World Records, for remaining with DEATHTRAP the entire run. I used to see her on the #1 train, in full stage make-up, racing for half-hour. And she didn't exactly stop acting afterwards -- along came something called THREE TALL WOMEN, for starters.
