I bought the soundtrack a week ago on eBay and got it today. It's non stop listening to this thing! I really like the soundtrack. The score is pretty clever and catchy. I wasn't lucky enough to see the show before it closed. I actually found it was closing about a week before it did. I'm guessing that most people found it as a flop. When I saw the movie, I thought that a musical version would be very nice. Since it will be going on tour, should I go see it. Please give me some personal experiences with the show (NO SPOILERS.) And some people say that the tour may not even happen. And I also read on Wikipedia (great source by the way :/) that Allison Janney will play Violet on tour.
Well, you think Mimi dies at the end but Angel sends her back to earth so Roger will play his song for her. At least according to the soundtrack.

Yes you should see it. It's a fun show that just didn't catch on in NY, but should tour well. Not all shows make it in NY, but that doesn't make them bad shows.

ljay889: I really hope you are saying that to Pgenre becuase right now I am.
Pgenre: WHAT!
I saw the first preview of the show and I can say that there are few shows that I find so satisfying as 9 to 5. People will view this as me being an amateur in theatre but that's not true, I just found the humor to be witty and fun and the songs were catchy. Was it the best show I've ever seen? No. But was it one of the few shows that showcased a great cast double with enjoyable music and a fun plot? Definitely.
EDIT: I guess the point of my post was to say I sure hope they tour!!

I really liked this show and saw it twice when it was on Broadway. I'm surprised it did not catch on, but maybe theatergoers tastes are changing once again and are not tolerating movies-to-shows as they once did?
It's a fun show. Great music. Go see it
I totally agree with THDavis. I loved the show. It was a fun show that I was upset that I didn't get to see it until it's closing weekend. I would definitely go see the tour.
I can't wait to see Sheryl Lee Ralph, Barbara Walsh, Karen Ziemba and Sam Harris in this!
THAT's what!
Now get out and stay out!
P
YES,
I was impressed with the score, if the staging and set is less obtrusive, I feel it will do well on the road, especially if Allison Janney takes part.
LEGALLY BLONDE seems to be doing very well on tour, and this could also be a possible money maker.
Go see it and decide for yourself.
This was a very accurate film to stage adaption. It almost bordered on the point of copying the movie with how similar it all was. I'm guessing that anyone who really likes the movie would really like the show unless they consider the similarities in dialogue and such to be a lack of originality. I think a film to stage adaption should be kept as similar to the movie if that's what made it famous in the first place. All of the changes in Legally Blonde were irritating I thought.
Cast recording, love.
It's not too much to hope they mean this?

Oh this argument will never end :) Tomato, tomato... that doesn't work as well when it's typed out.
Uhhh...it's not too hard

I could not agree more with you more. But the Legally Blonde changes were pretty good when they were added. Like the What You Want dance number.
I found some other screen-to-stage ventures much better. There have been others that were critically-acclaimed (THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, THE LION KING, GREY GARDENS), so I'll compare to other non-favorable adaptations.
9 TO 5 was not as good as THE WEDDING SINGER, XANADU, and I cannot believe I am saying this, but not even LEGALLY BLONDE. 9 to 5 was better than HIGH FIDELITY and, from what a friend says since I didn't see it, CRY-BABY.
I guess you'll have to take this with a grain of salt since I've never seen the movie, but I found Xanadu rather boring and the plot was less than involving. I think that's probably the most disappointed I've been at a Broadway show to tell you the truth, and this isn't my first time at the rodeo. It's not that it wasn't any good, but after it was talked up so much I wanted so much more.
Um... it may be?
Ha ha, yes it is. Why do you ask?

If 9 to 5 goes on tour, the set will probably won't include an elevator for transitions.

Cute, if so. Just sayin'. :)
I saw 9 to 5 over the summer and found it VERY enjoyable. I think it was one of the most under-rated shows of the season, and I was baffled as to why this show was snubbed by the Tony committee. Especially in the set design category.

I'm starting to think so too. I guess not a lot of people like the "movie-turned-musical" idea anymore.
