"Didn't like the movie, you say? Then yeah, you probably didn't/won't like the musical."

I absolutely hate the movie with a firey passion but I adore the musical. I only saw the movie because I'm a big fan of Andy Karl, and when I heard he was cast in the readings of the show and whatnot, I decided to watch it. I thought it was horrible!

I love the stage show so much because it's much more fun than the movie! It has life in it! None of the actors are dead. I love Dolly and Lilly and the rest of the gang, but I think the musical is a million times more fun.

Definately go see the tour.

Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, RENT, Mamma Mia!, Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, Evita (with Julia Murney), Hairspray (with Paul Vogt), Peter and the Starcatchers (with Christian Borle), Lion King, Altar Boyz, Legally Blonde (with Lauren Zackrin).

Seen both the musical and the film. The only differences were an LCD screen and Wicked style belting.

Oh yeah, and the musical sucked while the film is one of the most genius comedies in modern film.

:pokes head in:

Where were all these 9 to 5 lovers when it was being trashed--and I mean absolutely trashed--on BWW during its brief run?

I really enjoyed the show. Yes, it could have been much better. It was also, IMO, much better than some other shows that ran longer.

I am of the 9 to 5 Generation. I loved the film. Still enjoy catching it on tv, in fact. However, I never had the desire to see the musical...it just didn't seem like something that I wanted to see. .

Then, based on many reports here and in formal reviews, nothing was said to change my mind. It felt, to me, like a museum piece. Nothing new that could be said, or that needed to be said any longer.

I had no desire to see it then, and wont' be visiting the tour should it come to fruition.

I would HIGHLY doubt that Allison Janney would be involved in the tour, but anything is possible.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

The tour was just announced for Atlanta end of Sept to beginning of October at the Fox Theater! So excited!

Theater anywhere, anytime and with anyone. It's my passion.

I am not proud to admit that I saw 9 To 5 because I have a fangirl crush on Stephanie J. Block. However, I didn't care at all for the musical. While I thought the performances were good, I thought the whole show lacked substance.

Maybe I'm just not one for "feel good" musicals...

There's a rumor that the tour will stop in Chicago; I won't be going regardless of my love for Stephanie.

I think it's going to be in Chicago for a two week run. You'll need to see it!

I saw the first preview and loved it. The energy onstage and in the audience was pretty amazing. I saw it again three months later and was a little let down. It was a fun show with a very strong cast, but it just wasn't that good. I'm still surprised that it didn't find an audience though.

So far it's:

Nashville (Sept. 21 - 26)
Atlanta (Sept. 28 - Oct. 3)
Tampa (Oct. 19 - 24)

I wonder what city will go in between Atlanta and Tampa - some place in the south would be my guess.

Chicago hasn't posted their new Broadway season yet, so I don't know if that rumor is true. They said they would post their new season sometime in February.

Dear Dolly and Producers,

PLEASE come to Fort Worth! :P lol.

I cannot wait for this tour to kick-off. Hopefully I will be able to see it if it comes this way. It is bound to come to some city in Texas. Probably Houston or Dallas. But hey, Grease and Legally Blonde landed in FTW this summer! There could be a chance. Any news on casting yet?

I would vote no...skip it, save your money for something better. I wanted to like this show. I waited until after the opening so I saw the finished product. I love Dolly and I really wanted to see her succed. The truth is though, that I just didn't think that the songs were very good. It seemed boring and too simplistic when the during all of the musical numbers. I also was not a fan of AB's choreography. The parts that were funny were exactly the same as they were back in 79 or 80. Janney was great but it just wasn't enough to I would have rather seen Cry-Baby again.

^ agreed. bad show. bad bad bad.

"the stage too must experiment - with ideas, with the psychological relationship of men and women, with speech and rhythm forms, with dance and movement, with color and light - or it must and should become a museum product. in an age of terrific implications as to wealth and poverty, as to the function of government, as to peace and war, as to the relation of the artist to all these forces, the theatre must grow up. the theatre must become conscious of the implications of the changing social order, or the changing social older will ignore, and rightly, the implications of the theatre." - hallie flanagan, director of the federal theatre project

IMO, 9 to 5 got a lot of crap during its run. It was a solid show that should have gotten a lot more credit than it did. Was it perfect? No. Was it the greatest thing in theater? No. But it's fun and funny and you feel good when you leave the theater. And I still think it has a relevant message for audiences today.

Allison Janney will not, in fact, be doing the tour (thanks for that rumor, Wikipedia.) I'd say chances of Megan Hilty doing the tour are pretty good, though.

wdwfreak: coming from someone who liked "legally blonde", "the little mermaid" and "shrek"? at least i've got the critics on my side.

bestfreakinshoes: you are right, not the worst show ever, but imho, even mediocre shows don't belong on broadway charging $121 a pop. and, personally, speaking as a female in the corporate world, i don't really think its relevant today at all.
