I'm listening to the recording of the 1980 West End revival, and with that glorious score it deserves the cast it deserves.
But... any ideas who could do the production full justice?
Currently, I'm drawing a blank.
Suggestions? Comments?
And I really wish it would happen.

I just saw the Sinatra movie version on TV this morning. The music is so good and the plot is so problematic. I would cast Raul Esparza as Joey, Victoria Clark as Vera, and Jessie Mueller as Linda English.

Random threadjack question:

Why did Gladys Bumps sing Zip in the last revival? Did Roundabout substantially revise the book for that revival? Is that the way the show is licensed now?

I tried a google search and couldn’t find anything substantive.

How about Tony Yazbeck? He could be a worthy successor to Gene Kelly, Harold Lang, and Bob Fosse.

Richard Greenberg wrote a new book for that revival. Gladys performed "Zip" as a strip tease act at the club. The act was her playing a girl reporter from the Daily "Male" Examiner.

This is in the works with a revised book by Richard Lagravense and directed by Tony Goldwyn. It will be a predominately African American cast.....Marin Mazzie, and Patina Miller did a workshop of it. I think it might be going to the McCarter Theater first.

Nicole Kidman, Sharon Stone, or Michelle Pfeiffer if they want to have any chance of running?

Bernadette Peters could potentially be wonderful. A little long in the tooth for it, but she looks younger than Stockard Channing did in the last revival.

I don't know what the trajectory for this Tony Goldwyn directed revival may be, but seeing this thread and the question about Audra makes me want to hear her rendition of "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered"
