A CATERED AFFAIR or CRY BABY?

Posted: 4/1/08 at 4:01pmHaha I just posted in the review thread on Catered Affair and was saying I was stuck between these two shows. I'm seeing Gypsy at night on the 23rd and in the afternoon I want to see one of these two so I can catch a new show. Any more opinions?

So what happened to those posters that are saying that these two shows will "definitely" be nominated for BEST NEW MUSICALS?
I still do think that A CATERED AFFAIR might be nominated!

Posted: 4/1/08 at 4:07pmI'm waiting for the onslaught of negativity, but I think Cry-Baby will be nominated. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 4:26pmUnless you can get extremely discounted tickets -- and someone carries you to the theater -- then neither are probably worth the effort. There are little bits in each that are nice and I'm sure they'll find fans but nothing to write home about.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 4:54pmDepends on what you are looking for. If you want pure entertainment and just to have a good time and laugh then go see CRY-BABY, if you want nuanced acting. drama and an emotional experience go to A CATERED AFFAIR. Each has something very different to offer. And despite the people on these boards each is a worthy show. So it just depends what you feel like taking in that day.

If I were choosing (I have see neither show), I would personally pick A Catered Affair.
With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
"Not Barker, Todd is the only person I've ever known who could imitate Katherine Hepburn...in print." -nmartin-

Unless you are a "flopaholic" like WAT, see A CATERED AFFAIR.
And I have seen both.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 9:39pmI saw Cry Baby on Broadway and Catered Affair out of town. While the performances were fanastic, I was underwhelmed by the production. I went in with high hopes for it, but was somewhat bored. I went into Cry Baby expecting the worse after reading the reviews on here, and enjoyed myself. Perfect, hell no. Will you have a good time? Yes
