I haven't seen either. But, I have heard that A Catered affair would have done better without the music and just be a play. Cry Baby is looking good that it would close in previews.

Definitely Cry-Baby - you'll have a lot more fun, and despite the naysayers here, it's pretty good
Haha I just posted in the review thread on Catered Affair and was saying I was stuck between these two shows. I'm seeing Gypsy at night on the 23rd and in the afternoon I want to see one of these two so I can catch a new show. Any more opinions?
So what happened to those posters that are saying that these two shows will "definitely" be nominated for BEST NEW MUSICALS?
I still do think that A CATERED AFFAIR might be nominated!

I'm waiting for the onslaught of negativity, but I think Cry-Baby will be nominated. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Unless you can get extremely discounted tickets -- and someone carries you to the theater -- then neither are probably worth the effort. There are little bits in each that are nice and I'm sure they'll find fans but nothing to write home about.

Depends on what you are looking for. If you want pure entertainment and just to have a good time and laugh then go see CRY-BABY, if you want nuanced acting. drama and an emotional experience go to A CATERED AFFAIR. Each has something very different to offer. And despite the people on these boards each is a worthy show. So it just depends what you feel like taking in that day.
Just go see GYPSY or IN THE HEIGHTS...

i hope that cry baby has a cd out soon or when it opens.
If I were choosing (I have see neither show), I would personally pick A Catered Affair.
Unless you are a "flopaholic" like WAT, see A CATERED AFFAIR.
And I have seen both.

Neither! Go see Adding Machine, it's amazing....
I saw Cry Baby on Broadway and Catered Affair out of town. While the performances were fanastic, I was underwhelmed by the production. I went in with high hopes for it, but was somewhat bored. I went into Cry Baby expecting the worse after reading the reviews on here, and enjoyed myself. Perfect, hell no. Will you have a good time? Yes
Cry-Baby all the way- at least you won't be bored.
