I know that they did this with "Contact." Does anyone think they might do this with "Piazza"? I can't think of a better reason for finally buying that DVD recorder (can you?)!
when is the final performance?
July 2nd.
That would be awesome if they aired it.
I would LOVE it......what a great way to start our trip to Europe!
Does anybody know where to get a copy of that contact?
Aww man, I wish Kelli and Matt's performances were captured on tape.
this would be the best thing ever if they did!!
I would rather have Katie on film....and it would be AMAZING to have this in a dvd collection
I think its possible - but it would probably be a "Live From Lincoln Center" which means no dvd release - just a one time airing.

Well if they are recording it they can still release it on DVD, whether it's live or not.
EDIT: And live doesn't always mean airing on TV when its happening (sorry best way I could describe it)
If I missunderstood, I apologize.

You would think they would have done it with the OBC though
I'm always really impressed with the filming quality (camera angles and focus) of PBS Great Performances TV productions. I can only imagine how beautiful "The Light in the Piazza" would look pro-shot.
Yero - actually no - if it were filmed "Live from Lincoln Center" they could NOT release it at a later date on dvd. The contract only allows for a one time airing. "Great Performances" could have done a commercial airing/dvd release but they aren't around anymore.

so MB, is it a one shot type thing. like they don't rerun them?
They air it I believe 2 times - within the same week and then - no more.
Any chance it will extend past July (again)?
Well, they could say "Live from LCT" then release it on DVD. Of course, "Live" would be for publicity...and the contracts would be worded differently.
I am sure they recorded the OBC.
It was probably recorded for the library's collection early on, especially because they never planned on it running so long. A Live From Lincoln Center broadcast would be a dream come true, and while it wouldn't be available on DVD I can assure that it would be at MY house on DVD!
Aaron Lazar says on his blog that there are rumors that Piazza will extend AGAIN to September...it is under the January 2nd entry...as he says, if that happens, Piazza will have to transfer to a different theatre to make way for LCT's new show. This is, I'm sure, a super rumor, but it certainly is possible.

When did Great Performances go out... I was just on the Thirteen and PBS websites and from outward appearances, it's still there. It's a bit of an institution in tv to me, so it's a bit of a shocker to me.

"'Great Performances' could have done a commercial airing/dvd release but they aren't around anymore."
Ummm...yes it is.

That would be wonderful, since I know that I won't get the chance to see it.

I can't think of a show more worthy of an extension than "Piazza." As far as I'm concerned, it should run for years. I hope the rumor is true.
I hope there's truth to the rumor, too. I'd love to be able to see the show again!
If they did I'd die. That would be amazing!
