I saw it the other day and enjoyed Kyle Ramar Freeman more than I did Jaquel Spivey.

I have seen them both but really glad Kyle was able to go to London with the show. He is excellent in the role.
I’m going at the end of the month and I’m supremely excited.
Up until I stopped counting who I saw, I had seen Kyle as Usher the most and he honestly deserves his flowers and accolades for the work he put into being able to fully craft his own individual Usher throughout the run in real time, and sometimes when least expected (one of Edwin’s last performances, Kyle swung on mid-show due to Edwin having a health issue).
I hope this means an Olivier for him and it helps him reach greater heights as a performer because a star is truly born.
Side note: In the reviews, it seems the distinctly American references to Tyler Perry’s oeuvre do sometimes get lost in translation across the pond and that was brought up more than once.

I look forward to reading your review! I’m going in September and I’m beyond excited as I loved the show the few times I saw it in NYC!

I’ll be seeing it at least twice so I’ll have a more rounded view. Also, depending on when in September you go, Kyle Birch (the Usher cover) is supposed to be on for the full last week of shows as KRF is departing for THE WIZ.

I’ll be there September 1st. Do you know if KRF will be on?
From what I have seen on Instagram, Kyle Freeman’s last performance was yesterday, so presumably Kyle Birch is taking over and there will be a new alternate in the wings
CONFIRMED: Kyle Birch is taking over as Usher for the remainder of the run and Christopher Michael Richardson is joining as the Usher alternate.

I’m excited to see the London production in three weeks!
They’ve really upped their advertising for this show. I feel like I’m seeing huge posters for this everywhere I’ve gone this weekend.

RIGHT?!?! I saw Kyle’s face everywhere in London. It almost incenses me that the total lack of advertising in NYC was in part contributor to its lack of success. (If I didn’t drag my friends time and time again, they would’ve never known this show existed)
Kyle Birch, the West End alternate for Usher, has passed away at age 26.

26. Unfathomable.
Did anyone get to see them live? I know they also did I’m Gonna Marry You Tobey Maguire overseas recently.
I didn’t get a chance to see him perform when I went, but I corresponded with him over Instagram and we actually met up and saw Sharlene Hector (Thought #1) in STANDING AT THE SKY’S EDGE.
He seemed fine then and I was so happy to see him. Sad that he passed so young

I saw Kyle towards the end of the run at the barbican and they were great. I really enjoyed their performance. So sad…
Awww I also saw both Kyles. Felt very special to have both a US and UK Usher. RIP far too young.
