Posted: 7/6/07 at 9:44pmi saw a chorus line last night and over all it was great. i especially loved chryssie whitehead and mara davi. chryssie was very funny and both were very nice at the stage door. everyone else was good too. there were 5 understudies on though. for sheila, don, bebe, diana, and i cant remember the other my playbill is upstairs lol. does anyone know if charlotte is sick? she didnt seem to be singing like normal and at the stage door she seemed not really with it. idk i still enjoyed it alot.

6 understudies.
I was there as well.
Sheila, Bobby, Don, Bebe, Judy, and Diana were all out.
Natalie Cortez, Heather Parcells, and Ken Alan were missed very much. The Sheila (Jessica Lea Patty) didn't have as much attitude as Deidre but she definitely got the sympathy vote at the end. Plus, when she let her hair down - that was hot! (ETA: I wrote hot twice. It just was!)
Michelle Aravena has a great voice, but Cortez just has the rough Bronx down so much better.
I've seen Grant Turner before as Greg. He's a great performer.

Posted: 7/6/07 at 9:57pmI think ACL is a show that might benefit from having (qualified) understudies on. Keeps everyone on edge and alert. Know what I mean? That's why I'm looking forward to seeing how the National Tour turns out. I think it will be a noticeably younger cast and I think that adds to the show because their nerves are a little more raw and less seasoned.

Posted: 7/6/07 at 10:02pmWow, Heather, Brad, and Natalie were out on Sunday too. I would have liked to see Jessica go on as Sheila though. She went on as Judy on Sunday. Who went on for Judy yesterday? I assume Michelle was Diana, Grant was Don, Jessica Lea Patty was Sheila, David Baum was Bobby, and Lyndy was Bebe. Also, how was Kevin Worley as Al?

So, I guess acting is out of the question?
Brad was out the last time I saw the show. Poor guy.
Courtney Laine Mazza was Judy. She was good. No Heather Parcells, though. She got the laughs but didn't have as much stage presence, I think. I think the biggest problem with the understudies was their lack of stage presence, Michelle, Jessica, and Grant aside (which is half of them, oy!).
Kevin Worley was good. He and Chryssie already have great chemistry.

I've been teaching English for 35 years and have never come across a run-on sentence fragment.

The original cast wasn't as bad missing shows to my knowledge.
And I know A Chorus Line is strenuous and that missing an occasional show isn't bad. In fact, it's good to have a rest. However, 6 people out in one day! I keep hearing the same names over and over gain. I just don't get why, unless there's a real severe medical or family problem (or a schedualed vacation), why people miss shows.

No it's not. A Chorus Line is entertaining and often brilliant, though the cast here with some exceptions, isn't really wonderful. People know it. People love it. Why shouldn't it be running?
I do think it's unfortunate that Michael Bennett's ghost didn't keep Company running, even though it's entirely different than the way he did it. Why do you think Chicago's still running? Fosse's making sure of it up there.
Sorry, I'm getting a little weird and spiritual.

Oh, I see. Dead people have an effect on whether or not a show runs. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
Everything about this revival has been a misstep. There isn't one thing they did right.
"though the cast here with some exceptions, isn't really wonderful."
With praise like that, no wonder it's still running!

Yes. it is a hard show to dance 8 times a week,
But the whole point is getting a chance to Dance.
And 6 understudies on the Line is Absurd,
How many people were in the Opening audition if all the swings were on?

When I saw the show, Al was played by David Baum, Bebe was played by Lyndy Franklin, Richie was played by E.Clayton Cornelious, Judy was played by Pamela Jordan and Dylis Croman was joining the company and playing one of the roles.
Yet, Charlotte was in the show and sounded fantastic.

In one of the many books written about the original 1975 Broadway production, sometime in the mid-70's a flu was going around that affected several cast members. Many were out during one particular performance that everyone in the audition scene basically made it 'on the line'. Literally no one was cut.

There were at least 3 cut dancers at this performance.
Though I don't remember seeing E. Clayton...
It was great to see Yuka Takara back. Her delivery of the line to Val about wanting just one of her boobs stopped the show with laughter.
