And a feature film is a bit different than joining the current Broadway company.
Yes, the "then and now" picture on Broadway.com of Daphne Rubin-Vega was a real eye opener, that's for sure.
wow! if they get the original cast to reprise all their roles in the movie the studio's make-up department better get ready to work some major Hollywood Magic! It's either that or break out the heavy duty Computer Imaging Equipment. No offense but they are waaay too old now for those roles and that fact will be too obvious on a huge 70mm movie theatre screen.
I seriously don't see this happening as casting for this movie has been going on for awhile now. They wouldn't bother going through a lengthy casting process for this movie if all they were going to do is phone up the original cast to star in the movie, why bother?
Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal and Taye Diggs still looks exactly how they did when they were in RENT. Idina could *possibly* pass as Maureen but I think everyone else is a little old. I mean, in the show they didn't look 20 years old or anything. And the only age that was ever uttered was Mimi's when she said "I'm 19, but I'm older for my age." Who knows. Mark could have been 30.

Maybe because they weren't having much luck?
And b-way buff, my remark about your post possibly being not true is just about the fact that there's no way of verifying information that appears only on an anonymous message board. However, as I said before, it's somewhat bolstered by someone else saying Anthony Rapp had interviewed for the movie too.
The history of movie adaptations of Broadway shows is that the original cast never gets to be in the movie... I can imagine the temptation it must be to immortalize your performance in a ground-breaking show.

Well just because most don't think that Adam and the OBC could take up their roles on Bway now, doesn't mean that they couldn't in the movie. It all depends on how Columbus decides to play it.
I can totally see asking them to do cameos though.
Adam Pascal as The Man.
Anthony Rapp as The waiter in the Life Cafe.
Daphne Rubin-Vega as The Bag Lady.
Idina Menzel as The Pocket Tease.
Taye Diggs, Jesse L. Martin and Kristen Lee Kelly as Life Support meeting attendees...
that's true Alien, i was just thinking the same thing. it would be great if they could work them into the script that way as sort of a "tribute" to the original group.

Agreed, some could pull it off... Anthony maybe, Adam probably, Taye definately, but I don't think I'd want this, to be totally honest. Them being in the film is one thing, but playing their roles is another thing entirely. I'd like to see them again, but I just don't think it'd work, unfortunately.
All this talk about their ages reminded me of when Adam and Daphne did Light My Candle at their Kean Concert. Adam sang, "You look like you're..." and then paused as he looked Daphne up and down skeptically before he sang, "16?" It was really funny the way he said it, also the way Daphne said, "I'm 19!" But with cinema, they can do a lot with appearances. I'm sure they could make them all look younger. I do really like the idea of them at least having cameos in the movie if not starring roles, because I am skeptical about the possibility of getting them all back together to do it again. I think it's a little insulting to try and get the OBC cast of RENT to star in a movie that's going as low as starring Justin Timberlake and others in it. I wouldn't think they'd be interested anyway...RENT the broadway show was a landmark show, and for the most of them was the spark of their careers. I have a feeling that RENT the movie is going to be a disapointment. And as for getting Daphne to come back...good luck. She's going to be a mother in a couple of months :-p.
Justin's auditioning wasn't for this project.
They tried to make the movie before but it fell through.
Did they released any other information about the casting for the movie?
information wasnt "released" adams wife told me about it
I think Tiny-Toon was just asking in general. And no, not yet.
Oh.. thanks luvtheEmcee!
Yup, no problem!
Hmmmmmm I just hope that if this is true, and Adam really does do it, that the publicity doesn't backfire and go to his head and make him think he is 'too good' for broadway... Otherwise I've just sort of stopped caring about it. When I said it would be awesome for the OBC to do it, I knew it was very unrealistic and it was just a little fantasy of mine. Never expected it to actually have a chance at happening...

#1Elphie, thanks for posting about this, I could just imagine Adam doing this, that would be so funny to see!!!
Anyway, as far as the whole Rent Movie thing, I think I am just undecided about how I feel about the original cast being in it? Or on top of that the whole darn movie, I just know that some musicals that they have made into movies, have really disapointed me, well okay one of the top of my head, but it is a really tough call as far as casting goes I think because if the stars are TOO big forget it, but then on the other hand being that I never had the chance to see the OBC, I would love to see some of them back together, I don't know I guess we just have to wait to see?

I've decided not to decide anything about it until I see it. There is no point in stressing because of what you've got no control over.
I doubt they'd take their original roles, but it's not far-fetched to imagine the OBC taking little cameos.
'National/Int'l. exposure, is all I'm sayin'.'
Very true, Bdwaygirl. There is no way he'd give that opportunity a miss if it came along, no matter if none of the other OBC members were cast. Imagine the publicity.
I don't even dare to hope any of them will get to reprise their roles in the movie, cameo roles would be cool.

Wee, this is fun. What rumor will we have next?
I'll believe something when I see it in the trade journals, and maybe not even then.

*loud squeal* AHH!!! I SO HOPE HE RECREATES THIS ROLE!!!! luckily, he'll have more time to remember the words.
wow...wasn't expecting that at all! lol, I'm having mixed feelings. I want Adam in it because I LOVE ADAM! but I do think the movie could be stronger with someone new. We'll just have to wait and see...

Got a question? Those of you who said his "voice is going" what does that mean exactly? If they do not have nodules, or have had surgery, and they are still with a vocal coach weekly, which with age should only enhance their ability and sound and range, then what makes their "voice go" and what do you hear in it? I am really curious about this!! I thought the last time I heard him, he was amazing, and adorable! but please, someone with knowledge, please answer.
I think this has been covered pretty thoroughly but the original cast is too old. I think they are all in the thirties and above. It doesn't work.
