Really glad this is happening but am a bit worried. Wouldn't the MCP Scarlet Pimpernel be counted as part of the strike? Do you think they'll cancel or reschedule?

The threatened strike would apply to the labs, not to shows developed under lab agreement. (I am assuming the posts are saying that these shows did work under the agreement, though I don't know that.)

So "staged readings" are part of what's covered by the strike. The Scarlet Pimpernel concert technically is a reading performed on stage, but it's not developing new material. Does anyone know the technicalities?

This doesn't affect anything that the public would be able to attend. This affects developmental workshops.

The "staged readings" that are part of this strike are those that are specifically using that contract. Manhattan Concert Productions is on a Special Agreement that references the Production Contract, not any of the developmental agreements. My guess is that it is similar to the contract City Center uses for Encores. At any rate, they are not affected by this strike.

update and clarification to the above: the strike relates to ALL developmental work, not just on the lab agreement. still correct that it only applies to the development work, not the products of it.

This is probably a stupid question but how would this affect the Beetlejuice and Moulin Rouge labs? Would the labs be canceled or rescheduled to a later date? Im a little confused, sorry.

Not a dumb question at all, but it’s the same answer as if asking when will the government shutdown end. No one knows the answer, but eventually one side will give in a little and both sides will claim a victory.

good analogy, though I'd suggest that in labor relations rather than politics, it's more likely both sides will claim a defeat.

But would today's start for Beetlejuice be considered a lab or a rehearsal, since it starts previews in the spring?

That would be defined by the contract.

It is either a lab to develop the script before rehearsals for Broadway begin, or it is a long Broadway rehearsal period. It's not an amorphous question.

I would ask Adam where he expects the money to come from - this industry is not investment banking. With a few exceptions, there is not a lot of extra money to spread around. In Transit is the perfect example - it lost almost $10 million dollars. This is an industry where people need to be VERY careful because expecting too much could mean there is less investment and therefore less jobs.

I'm all for the cause, but what I don't understand is why does Adam Bashian on his Instagram post seem like he is upset or even bitter that he was offered a off stage standby role when the show finally made a Broadway production? 

I agree if he worked on this piece for 5 years, he should be properly compensated...but are we now going to cast these readings or workshops as if it was a Broadway run? Does Brooke Shields really ahve 5 years to work on the next Leap of Faith before she is replaced?

What Equity is saying publicly is they're asking for more money weekly (as it has been the 1k/week negotiated 11 years ago) and a split of 1% share after recoupment.

Negotiating higher pay is always difficult but I think splitting a share after recoupment is long overdue for casts of commercial productions. The work actors do during these labs truly adds to the show's success. (And stipulating it would be after recoupment rightly targets shows who have success.) If every creator on the show gets to continue profiting from their creativity after they're paid their fee, then the actor creating the roles should, too.
