It didn't help that people were talking about it in this thread. In all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if we are the ones who tipped them off. People post audios on tumblr all the time without any issue.

Should I view the movie(s) before seeing the show? If so, which version? Or would it be better to go in cold? Just picked up 2 tickets for Saturday based on comments on this board and the chance to see top talent closer to Boston ( Like ART ). Very limited availability on weekends. BTW- pricing went up since yesterday. Also, any suggestions for lunch and dinner close to the theater?? Thanks!
FYI- there are tickets on the Today Tix app for Wednesday and Saturday. Plus, you can get a slight discount on the Hartford Stage site by hitting TodayTix.

This musical is based on the 1997 Animated film from Fox Animation Studios, so if you were to watch one movie before going it, it would be that. Can't say whether it's better to go in cold or not, but it seems like this musical departs fairly significantly from the movie.
I was wondering this. Why did the royal family work out in England and like basically nowhere else in Europe? The royal family in England may not be the governing body, but it sucks that so many of the royal families had to die! Was a consitutional monarchy not enough.
The show is allegedly based on both films, but given Flaherty and Ahrens' involvement I would imagine (without having seen the show) that it would draw more on the 1997 film than the 1956 one. The 1997 film was somewhat based on the 1956 one anyway.
Regarding 'In the Dark of the Night', I find it a fun listen on the film soundtrack due to the deliberately campy orchestrations (/arrangements), but I agree that it and Rasputin had to be cut for the stage show.

There are still many constitutional monarchies in Europe (UK, Spain, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands and other small countries like Monaco, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Vatican City). Russia was a constitutional monarchy only in theory and only for the last ten years of the Tsardom, but it had a long history of absolutism and so had France.

You'll be totally fine going in cold, as the stage version deviates from the movie. I haven't seen the movie in years -- frankly, I've forgotten much of what it looks like -- and the only parts that I found weren't fully explained were why Anya wanted to go to Paris and why she trusted Dmitry and Vlad... though I blame that on the current sccipt, not the need to see the movie first.
As for restaurant suggestions, PM me with what kind of food you're looking for. I know Hartford well. ![]()
UPDATE 05/18/16 3:50pm ET
In response to the TodayTix comment -- and for those who may not have seen the other BroadwayWorld post -- TodayTix just sent out the following announcement by email:
Enter the Anastasia mobile lottery for $25 tickets and learn about our Connecticut beta!
Enter Connecticut's first mobile lottery to see Anastasia at Hartford Stage.
Did you hear TodayTix is now in Connecticut? Check out the shows available just outside the city and enter the first mobile lottery to see ANASTASIA.
Starting today, you can enter the lottery each week through June 12 to win two $25 tickets to the Sunday matinee performance of ANASTASIA before it comes to Broadway. Winners will be alerted each Saturday and have 1 hour to claim their seats for the following day's performance (which gives you plenty of time to plan your day trip to Hartford!)
Enter the lottery now!
How to Enter:
1. Tap on the ANASTASIA Lottery in the app and enter to win two $25 lottery tickets.
2. The entry period will begin each week, starting Monday at 12:00am, and will continue until noon on the following Saturday. At that time, winners will be notified with a push notification and email if they have won tickets to that Sunday's matinee performance. So keep an eye on your phone and make sure notifications are enabled for TodayTix!
3. If you win, you can pay for your $25 lottery tickets in-app and pick them up at the Hartford Stage box office no later than 15 minutes before showtime.

Thanks for the reviews! I wanted to ask: do Dmitry and Anya still have the love/hate thing going on, like they did in the movie? Wasn't sure from what I've been reading.

Haha yes, they do. Though, I've heard the banter isn't as apparent in the musical as it is in the movie. I can't personally attest to this, as it's been so long since I've seen the movie. But either way, there's no need to worry about the romantic tension being missing.

In theory the animated film itself is based primarily on the earlier movie--though it's vastly different. When Fox spent millions on a animation studio to rival Disney and hired Don Bluth to helm it they asked him to choose any film from their library to adapt--apparently both King and I (which of course later did get that atrocious animated film) and My Fair Lady were considered but they decided to use a film that hadn't been a musical before.
I do agree about the In the Dark of the Night arrangements which they actually hired Jim Steinman to do. But yeah...
3NU as to your comment about the use of the word "girl" that would, of course, be completely historically correct...
Interesting about Manoel Felciano. I only saw him once, in the San Francisco production of the musical of Tales of the City where he played Norman the pedophile villain of the piece and he was just completely awful in the role, but it was also the extreme off point of the adaptation.

This is the first time I'm seeing a show in Hartford.... Seeing the show tonight! So excited....
But does anyone know where the stage door is. I'd like to have my playbill signed. Xoxo

Enjoy it! The stage door is down Church Street (head west down the street from the main entrance). The stage door is very unassuming with no guards. It looks like a loading dock. The actors may or may not come out FYI.
A blurry picture of their costumes. Looks gorgeous, but I wish Anya's final dress was like the movie.
Question for those in the know. I'll be heading to New York during it's closing weekend and I'd love to try and take a day trip to Hartford if possible. How do the student tickets work? Just trying to plan ahead and wouldn't want to get all the way to Hartford to know it's sold out. Thanks!
You can order student tickets ahead of time over the phone.
