Wick3 said: "@miles2go, I'm so glad you got to see this play! I saw it last Saturday and was completely blown away. I sat in the mezzanine but had the audio-assisted device on which helped make the play feel more intimate. I connect my Bose headphones to the audio-assist device and they make the sound so much better than not wearing them at all (I'm in my early 30s and only wear the audio-assist device when watching plays.)
I'm planning to go back and get a better seat and am thinking of plunging in and spending $$$.
I did watch the HBO mini series back in 2003 or 2004 but I didn't feel connected to it for some reason. I recall snippets of Al Pacino and Meryl Streep but completely forgot most of the plot. I'm glad they did this revival and hope to see the play one more time before July 15th (but in a better seat!)"
Yes, I am so glad I splurged on front Orchestra seats. I still got a sense of the enormity of the stage design while being drawn into the intimacy. I literally felt the heat during the fire scene. Lol
i went a bit crazy at the merchandise booth (but I’ve been saving up for this trip so I can afford to). I bought the mug, magnet plus the white F*** You I’m a Prophet t-shirt and black hoodie, both designed by Andrew Garfield. I may wear the white t-shirt today. I’m sure I’ll get some interesting looks today but it’s NYC so probably not as many looks as if I was back in OKC. I’ll probably pack a black polo in my backpack to throw over it in case restaurants deny me entrance. Lol
i too remember admiring the HBO production while not really comprehending all of it. It all made perfect sense yesterday. Kushner is such an intellligent and intellectual playwright that one must never allow oneself to lose focus during the nearly 8 hours of the stage production. I would like to view the HBO version again now.

Posted: 6/21/18 at 11:08amI’m seeing the show in the front row tonight and tomorrow! I was very excited at first, but for some reason my excitement has dwindled. Part of me started worrying about the length but I think once I’m in I’ll be enraptured.

You’ll be fine. There’s an intermission about once an hour plus it’s so engrossing that the time flies by. If I was here longer, I’d actually love to see it again!

Sooo excited for you!!! Enjoy!
I think being mentally prepared for it helps. I normally do not watch plays but for this one I didn't yawn nor did I feel bored. I also only got a drink during the 2nd intermission.
I sat in the mezz and got the audio-assisting device (sorry I don't know the official name) and connected my Bose headphones on them and they were great!!!

I love how the intricacies of his language reveal themselves to you on repeated viewings of a show (or reading of the book).

Posted: 6/21/18 at 1:12pmHow is the AC in the theatre? Yes I’ve been wearing shorts to shows, sue me, but I thought since I’m front row I should maybe wear pants. If the ac works well, then it shouldn’t be a problem.

I'm cold-natured anyway, but it felt colder to me than most other shows. I was also front row. I was wearing a short dress, but it was raining that day so I had my rain coat, and draped it around me.

It was freezing when I saw it. Definitely take a sweater!

Either the theater can't keep up with the current weather, or it's hotter in the mezz. I saw part two last night in pants, and I was on the edge of too warm. It definitely did not feel like one of those theaters that blasts the AC.

Posted: 6/21/18 at 4:05pmI found it comfortably chilly in the orchestra, but warm in the mezzanine.

I was on the warm side yesterday. I was in Orchestra row D and I was wearing shorts. It was maybe a little cooler do the second part in the evening. But I was comfortable in my shorts.

Aw Dame. I saw both parts yesterday. It would’ve been lovely to meet you. I was in Row A Center Orchestra for both parts.

Yes. It was spellbinding. Words escape me. For the first time ever, I am considering trying to extend my trip to see a show (both parts again on Wednesday) again.

It’s not ideal, but better to see both parts out of order than to not see both parts at all.

I’d also say I thought the cast was uniformly excellent. Not a weak link in the entire cast. I know some had some quibbles with a couple of the cast members’ performances , but I thought they were wonderful across the board.

Well I just want to slap myself in the face for having any doubts. I am still in awe of what I saw tonight. It flew by, as many have said. The performances all around are spectacular. I can understand peoples quibbles with Lee Pace, but if I hadn’t been made aware that his performance wasn’t loved, I might not have noticed. Sitting in the front row is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The great work has begun and I can’t wait to complete it tomorrow.
ANGELS IN AMERICA Reviews#121
Posted: 6/22/18 at 12:21amI thought Lee Pace excellent as was the rest of the cast. I’ll say it again. Not a weak link in the cast.

Lee Pace was incredible, and so physically beautiful it was quite distracting at times. You are absolutely right Miles, no weak link in that cast. Best show of the season.

I loved Lee Pace's perfromance as well and I didn't realize there were some criticisms on it. I thought he gave it his all.
There were parts of Perestroika I did not understand (mainly the first part with that speech) so I plan to do some research and hopefully watch Perestroika again at some point before July 15th.

I didn't think there were any weak links either. I'm glad I missed the Lee criticism b/c I may have noticed whatever someone had pointed out. I can't wait to see Part 1 Again.
