Ann will be closing after 132 performances on Broadway. I think this would easily be tourable, any thoughts on if this will tour? What's next for the Beaumont?

Posted: 6/12/13 at 6:24pmEasily be tourable? You must be joking. No one is trying to see this and I doubt Holland Taylor wants to be traipsing across the US. She lost enough money here.

Posted: 6/12/13 at 6:28pmI was thinking it would be easy to tour since one woman, low stage techs, and would boost Holland Taylor's visibility far more than her brief 2 1/2 Men cameos of late have done... I would think this would be an easy add-on for Theatres to a season as a special event, etc. Lastly I think could easily tour if Kathleen Turner toured with 'HIGH' last year...

Posted: 6/12/13 at 6:29pmUnless I'm mistaken, it already has been seen around the country in various stages of its development. I know she's already done it in Texas at some point… Where it would be of most interest anyway.

Posted: 6/12/13 at 6:30pmI would think a few performances could sell in big markets like Chicago, LA, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Denver, Dallas, etc.?

Posted: 6/12/13 at 6:33pmI don't think the reason she did this was to raise visibility of herself. This was a passion project of hers. You can tell that because it was open far longer than it should have been based on the grosses. No one is clamoring to see it here and most cities would just have theatres less than half full.

I absolutely think this is tourable.
The way Hal Holbrook is still touring in "Mark Twain Tonight." The way Garrison Keillor tours his one-man show. "Direct from Broadway! Tony nominee Holland Taylor in an unforgettable performance!"
I saw Estelle Parsons that way, when I was in school, in "Miss Warren's Profession."
There is an arts college circuit that pays well and is pretty damn large. It's a grueling schedule of one-night stands at major universities and colleges. Sold out crowds though.
If Holland Taylor takes this on the road, there will be no shortage of bookings.

Posted: 6/12/13 at 6:45pmShe did take it across the country and it played in major markets, including the Ordway in St. Paul. I don't believe it sold well, but I really give her kudos for the effort. A one person show has got to be very tough - especially when you're writing, starring, and producing it! Personally, I wasn't really drawn to the character of Ann. Had Holland been doing something else, I probably would've gone out of my way to have caught the show.

Posted: 6/12/13 at 6:45pmThat's what I was thinking best12bars! Just because she can't sell out on broadway 8 times a week @ $100+ pop, doesn't meant she can't sell 5-8 shows in high volume markets at $60/ticket...

Posted: 6/12/13 at 6:46pmIt did NOT play the Ordway in St. Paul, I'm from Minneapolis/St Paul and would have rushed in an instant to see her in this!

Great news a mini tour of select engagements seems very likely according to the producers...! Read the final sentences in this article!

Yes, Namo, apparently, I am that old. Thanks for the correction.
As a friend of mine from the South once said, "I knew Christ when he was a corporal."

The difference in Holland Taylor trying to tour the show before the Broadway run vs. AFTER the Broadway run is significant.
Now the ads can say "direct from Broadway" and "Tony Award nominee."
That's enough to get a lot more bodies in the seats.

Posted: 6/12/13 at 7:23pmAnn previewed in Chicago. Good reviews and a nice press push still didn't fill up the theater. I am afraid neither she nor Ann Richards is well known enough to pack 'em in on the road.

Posted: 6/12/13 at 7:24pmDrew, if you're speaking to the revival of A BRONX TALE, that already had been made into a movie long before he revived and toured it. So his profile may have been roughly similar, but I'd argue the material itself had a higher profile.

Posted: 6/12/13 at 11:38pmThe Taper might make sense for a limited run but a tour beyond that would be very ill advised. Mark Twain is an icon. Every schoolchild read his stories. A former governor of Texas not named Bush whose been out of office for almost 20 years and dead for 7? Will people in Denver, Seattle, Cleveland, Kansas City really give a crap? I doubt it. There's a difference in vaguely recognizing her name and being interested enough to plunk down $65-75 to learn about her life. What's the sales pitch... "Direct from Broadway where 70% of the seats were empty"? It wouldn't have a chance.
#21'ANN' closing June 30th! :(
Posted: 6/13/13 at 2:35amIt had a nice little run, and I'm glad to see Holland Taylor get the exposure. However, I'm afraid many people sadly don't remember who Ann was outside of Texas. And of course, since the Republicans have taken their hateful rule, it's kind of a bitter reminder of what might have been.

"I saw Estelle Parsons that way, when I was in school, in "Miss Warren's Profession." "
Since you were discussing one-person shows, did you mean Miss Margarida's Way?
As for Ann, I'm surprised it even ran as long as it did. It was better suited to the Newhouse.
