"i don't know why people are mean. People become emotional on this board when all that is needed are facts to make points.
calling people stupid is sophomoric and irrational.

9-5 barely had any advance at all. It has a high running cost and the country is in a recession. I don't think logically it can make it when competing with other BIG musicals as people are choosing to go to one or 2 shows and not 3-4 like in past years.

The show got very mixed to negative reviews and it didn't get a tony nomination. All this logic points to it having a very short run or they can choose the legally blonde route and run for a while and lose 75% of their investment but keep the show open for Ego sake.
Either way the show will not recoup and if it were smart would close by labor day."

You basically just proved you put 9 to 5 down to make yourself feel better about Rock of Ages. I don't know how long it ROA will run, but I guarantee it won't have a 5 year run.

"Ok so your logic of audience reaction, just for the readers at home, is the interviews on the cast website. That's your evidence."

Um, no. Clearly the things on the website are biased. I am not claiming otherwise. However, they certainly aren't scripted. People aren't crowding the stage door so that they can have the opportunity to be on a stupid blog saying they liked the show if they really didn't. My point was simply that many people do have more than an "it's fine" reaction, which can be seen by the people interviewed at the stage door. Is that everybody who sees the show? Clearly not. But is it a notable number of people? Yes. I am just pointing out that people have other opinions than yours mass, so stop putting words in my mouth.

re: AVENUE Q Welcomes Back Ann Harada 7/6, Tour Stars McClure, Larsen and T

i don't have to make myself feel better about rock of ages by putting any other show down.
I did not "put the show down". The show is not a person and therefore does not have feelings. I did not make the show feel sad or be mean to the show because it cannot register what I a saying.
I logically pointed out that the show is too expensive to run, and with the reviews that it received plus the VERY average word of mouth that I am hearing (not going by the videos on the website..hah ha ha ha ah) i don't think the show can financially run much longer than labor day. I think michael reidel said the same thing I am saying. Right?

and you don't think ROA will run 5 yrs. Ok. we shall see.
When the movie comes out in 2 and all the international productions start mounting in 2 yrs, you lemme know if you still feel the same thing.

re: AVENUE Q Welcomes Back Ann Harada 7/6, Tour Stars McClure, Larsen and T

back to you bjh2114,
you think that 50 video entries on a show's website is a "notable" number of people?
I think that the marquis holds about 1500 people (more or less) a night. Now if 1500 people a night see that show and it has been running for ..3 weeks now? that would be...oh lets see..1500 times 8...12,000 people per week? let's drop that because its more like 1000 people a week.. so we are talking about 24000 people for the past 3 weeks...right? and you are saying 50 people is a notable number for a straw-poll of peoples feelings toward a show?

wow. what do you do for a living. you aren't an actuary are you?
50 out of 24,000 people is what you are making your assumption on..nice...nice.

re: AVENUE Q Welcomes Back Ann Harada 7/6, Tour Stars McClure, Larsen and T

You are truly an idiot. You only hear what you want to hear. Clearly 50 people out of the total audience is not a large sum...BUT the opinions of those people can be very indicative of the people not on camera as well. I never said that EVERYBODY in the theatre felt that way. By "notable" I meant more than 5 people who are friends with the cast (as some shows do that...they get like 10 people who they know to come and say good things about the show when nobody else does). I'm not saying that people don't leave the Marquis and say "it was ok". People leave EVERY show saying that. Not everyone feels the same way about any show. A normal person reading this thread would look at your argument and say "BJH isn't arguing with you about that. Why are you being so moronic?" I'm done arguing with you know, because I've made my point and I don't care to defend it any more. We will see what happens with 9 to 5 come Labor Day.

re: AVENUE Q Welcomes Back Ann Harada 7/6, Tour Stars McClure, Larsen and T

because every time you defend it you make an innane post concerning the sad logic that you are trying to use.
It's just sad really.
hey go onto the "story of my life site" and see if 50 people loved it.
or maybe the "crybaby site" site and see if 50 people loved it.
or maybe the "tale of two cities" site and see if people loved it. I am sure those 50 people were indicative of the crowds as a whole.

I just cannot believe that you would actually use that as a rational argument. Blows my mind.

I am glad you love 9-5. I thought it was midly entertaining, but while I actually base shows' length on facts and figures you do it with your heart. Mine seems less fallible.

You probably haven't even seen the show. You only ever talk about ROA, or to bash a show that is in "competition with ROA". This is about AVENUE Q. Get over it. ROA is not a groundbreaking show. Okay cool if it runs 5 years. Cool. It's not even making that much money. About 500,000 a week. Last time I checked RENT (with an even lower running cost than ROA) had grosses similar to that when it announced its' closing date. 9 to 5 is climbing every week, and is making avoce its' nut. It will obviously do very well in the summer as will ROA, and mostly every other show. Don't make 9 to 5 seem like it is practically selling free tickets on the street, when it is doing fine. ROA AND 9 to 5 are both doing well for new shows. Realize it.

re: AVENUE Q Welcomes Back Ann Harada 7/6, Tour Stars McClure, Larsen and T

realize what? that the producers of 9-5 lie about the grosses put across to the public?
OK I realize that.
I also realize that 9-5 had a much much higher advance sale (4 million to roa's 1.5) which..like i said before but I will repeat it for you, will help for the next month or two.
And I think ROA's ix prices just went up again. So you will see them start to gross around 6-650,000 in a month. Don't be scared.
By sept the show will dramatically drop to about 50-60% while ROA will still be at about 90%.
you will see.
I will come back and we can chat about how I am right....again...

And I talk about other shows, you all just keep saying inane things abut ROA so I come here to set you straight. And even if I didn't talk about other shows, i think its still America and I can do what I please. If you don't like it, don't respond or read.

The point is that your predictions are so not right. You said Hair would flop? It is doing ten times better than ROA is and is close to recouping. Don't be so sure about 9 to 5 dropping that much. Are you jealous that 9 to 5 is doing better than ROA as of right now? Hmm..I think so.

re: AVENUE Q Welcomes Back Ann Harada 7/6, Tour Stars McClure, Larsen and T

massofmen CLEARLY is living in a fantasy world. 9 to 5 is making a handsome profit every week and hasn't even hit the tourist season. The show OBVIOUSLY has good word of mouth from audience members because even with a poor advance, it ends up with a high capacity audience every week. The shown has already sold $4,699,128 of tickets, and it's advance was around $4,000,000. There is NO way that ALL of its advanced tickets were ONLY purchased for the first 7 weeks and not after, and even if by some ghostly coincidence they were... it made MORE than its advance and there were at least $669,128 worth of audience members that decided to buy a ticket after the show started performances, and that's being extremely modest. Let's not kid ourselves, they weren't drawn in by reviews or TONY noms. They either didn't hear of it till then, or they got a call from a friend urging them to see it. There is no reason why massofmen needs to belittle 9 to 5's grosses to make ROA's grosses look better. They are both doing wonderfully and will be around on Labor Day.

I miss the Wicked and Rent fangirls now, all they do is talk about how they love their show... and NOT by belittleing every other show.
