re: Aaron Tveit's replacement.....?

I honestly don't think I'd call Gabe a "complex" character. At least the times I've seen it, it's not an uber challenging role. It's not Diana. Sure, it's more challenging than Fieyro, but I think most actors could handle Gabe.

It's funny, if this had been during the 2nd Stage run I might totally agree with you there that Gabe isn't a particularly complex role. But I feel like Aaron has done SO much with the role between then and now. He's made the role more complex than I thought was possible! I think... it's pretty doable to pull off the role, but Aaron makes it so dynamic. It's like the entire show he's getting so much enjoyment out of watching the others suffer, and yet ultimately in the end you still feel for Gabe because you know that he just wants to be acknowledged.

So yeah, I think plenty of people could DO the role and pull it off just fine, and the show would still be amazing. But I really do think that Aaron has perfected this role, and added layers to it that make Gabe one of the most engaging characters in the show. Again, it's this intensity that Aaron's Gabe has... the way he stares SOOO hard at Dan and Natalie throughout the show, just trying to get them to acknowledge him. The way he gets so devilishly excited when Natalie starts falling apart. And yet there's an innocence and sincerity about him too- a youthfulness that makes it so that he's not an annoying character, just one who's really longing to be seen.

I don't even know if I'm describing it right haha. I just know that he was one of the most interesting people to watch on that stage, and this is a show FULL of interesting people to watch :) And I don't think it's just because I find him gorgeous. In fact, I'm fairly sure it's not that. I just think he gave the character more layers than I even knew that character could have. And I'm not sure that many other people could bring out all those layers the way he does. PLUS the way he moves is so unique- he's so uber smooth, and it gives him this ghost like quality that so fits the part.

Oh and plus he and Alice have AMAZING, amazing chemistry. They have a real connection there! Not saying that couldn't be possible with anyone else, but.. I can't imagine it's too EASY to find :)

EDIT: For the record, I definitely don't mean to imply that I think it's the most challenging, complex role ever. Nah. Heck, Diana and Natalie are quite a bit more complex in a lot of ways. I just think that Gabe is one of those characters that can be pulled OFF easily, but because on the surface he's pretty simple it actually makes it challenging to bring out the layers that CAN be there. And I think Aaron's done that brilliantly. That's all
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

What makes his performance so enthralling is the stuff he does when you aren't supposed to be watching him. His reactions to what's going on around him. The looks in his eyes. The desperation. He has perfected being a presence in this show, even when he's not saying or doing anything.

It's been fascinating to watch how much his performance has grown and improved since 2nd Stage, when he was very good, but mostly just singing the heck out of the role.

^EXACTLY! It's his intensity in the parts where he's not the center of attention that makes his performance so impressive. Like you said, you never once miss his presence in the show.

The way he says his lines and his singing are wonderful, but just watch him when the OTHER characters are supposed to be the main focus, and that's when you realize how great he is. Because, while they're in the midst of their lines, he's STILL standing there staring bullets into the back of their heads, or looming over them so obviously begging to be noticed.

while I don't know the date...I'm pretty sure word was that he would be gone for the summer. At least the way things are going, he'll have a job to come back to!!!

He did say September. My guess, based on nothing factual, is that it's the week after Labor Day.

CATCH ME ends 8/16, right? Do you think it might extend or do they rehearse after that or something?

re: Aaron Tveit's replacement.....?

I doubt they would extend....but they would most likely be bringing it back to NY. I assume they'd close down for awhile and let the writers work and then re-assemble.

Feasibly, Aaron could rehearse days and perform nights at N2N...at least for a bit of time. Catch Me isn't due to open on Bway until spring 2010. So they wouldn't be going into full rehearsals until mid to late winter.
