Aaron doesn't look terribly young himself, my friends. Kyle and Aaron look like their ages.

But last I heard, Clay Aiken was in talks to take over the role...

I think Tveit looks a good deal younger than Kyle Dean Massey, who I still think will be very good in the role.

Because Tim Young covers both Gabe and Henry. It was probably much easier to hire someone to play Gabe than it was to promote Young, and find (and train) someone who could cover both Gabe and Henry.

There is a limit to how long an understudy can play a role. Once they pass that, they need to renegotiate a contract. It's either two or three weeks -- I think it's three...but I'm sure others know for sure.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Kyle was a heck of a lot better than Aaron as Fiyero. Much better actor and singer IMO.

Fiyero is about as challenging as taking a crap. Not a good reference point.

Also, Gabe is a much different role than Fiyero. Much better role, in a much better show. Very complex character, and a lot harder to sing than Fiyero. But you wouldn't know that, seeing as you haven't seen the show.

I honestly don't think I'd call Gabe a "complex" character. At least the times I've seen it, it's not an uber challenging role. It's not Diana. Sure, it's more challenging than Fieyro, but I think most actors could handle Gabe.

I think it's highly complex- the entire character is so metaphorical, abstract, and means something different to each character in the show. I can't imagine anyone else capturing the eerie, charismatic quality Tveit brings to the role.

I don't think the character is incredibly challenging, but the score must be a b!tch to sing. It's a lot of high, full chested notes, for most of the show. That must be taxing on the voice, even for a tenor.

Men don't even belt.

So you are gonna see this show over 50 times also like you have seen Wicked? Unless you are there everyday you have no clue if I have seen the show or not!

I'm glad that this is happening...I was really worried about who I was going to see as Gabe, but I'm really happy that it's Massey.
And as far as the Fiyero thing goes, it isn't exactly a piece of cake vocally, or, at least, it's somewhat difficult on some songs. It's definitely not complex by any stretch, but not everyone could pull it off.

I think you're making the role out to be more challenging than it is. He doesn't really interact with anyone except for Diana, and only briefly with Dan. The hardest part would just be the physical aspect of always having to run up and down those damn stairs. I found Tveit's swining around the set to be a little distracting and a little annoying frankly. I'm curious to see what the new cast member does with the role.
