I just saw a preview for it the other day--it looks awesome. What is the plot, exactly?
I chose, and my world was shaken. So what?
The choice may have been mistaken. The choosing was not.

Looks like somebody watched Hair when they designed this...
Well actually the "hair" itself doesn't look all that authentic. But the giant LBJ puppet has to be an homage to that film.

I think SDav meant authentic to the period

I saw the trailer at the movies today. They certainly go out of their way to NOT let people know it's a musical. There is tons of Beatles music in the trailer but I think there is ONE shot (About 2 seconds long) where someone is actually shown singing. It looked interesting, but I still cringe everytime I hear the characters name "Jude" because I will spend the whole film dreading the moment when someone FINALLY sings "Hey, Jude."
My Boyfriend (Who knew nothing of the film) saw the ad and said "So they remade Hair?"

I've been waiting for this movie for years. How does it get better than Julie Taymore and the Beatles??
But I am curious how this movie is stealing from the Bread and Puppet theatre? Are their arguments that she has stolen their ideas or designs?

The website is up for Across the universe. Music samples and some clips. Looks freaking phenomanal. And Evan Rachel Wood can sing

The movie looks a bit stupid to me. But I'm probably not part of the "right audience" for it: people who won't cringe when they hear "Hey Jude" refer to an actual character (as JoeKV99 mentioned).

I'm excited for the project, but worried about it at the same time. It's had a lot of conflict between Taymor at the studios, which doesn't bode well. I've got my fingers crossed.

I am really, really excited for this film- it looks very different, and potentially incredible
I don't know, but the story and look of the movie seems amazing.
But yeah, I agree...as soon as my sister and I saw the trailer, we were like "Well of COURSE someone needs to be named Jude...". Haha, oh well :P

Yeah, when I first saw the trailer I thought it was a remake of Hair. But it looks interesting.

I really hope this turns out well. I know people who worked on it, and I've been hearing about its progress for months and months and months!

I've seen the trailer many many times in the theater and never realized that it was a musical until I read it in this thread. Weird...

Yeah, I wouldn't have known it was a musical if my friend hadn't told me.
I didn't quite catch the plot either...
When I saw the preview again, it made my friend and I think of Moulin Rouge..
only a little more strange...

Complete agree. It definitely reminds me of Hair and Moulin Rouge, but I love both of those. I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie.
Although...shouldn't this be on the off-topic board?

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

Is it sad that I didn't know this was a musical? Now I'm even more excited for this.
