Actor Musician musicals

Hi everyone,

I went to see Sunset Boulevard last night in the West End- it was amazing!
Does anyone know of anymore 'actor-musician' musicals coming to the West End?

Thanks

I don't think so but it would most likely be produced by the Watermill.

Blithe Spirit - an Actor Musician show is currently touring the UK.

I don't know of any actor-muso shows that are presently planned for the West End. "Sunset", of course, started out at the Watermill and in July Craig Revel Horwood's new actor-muso production of "Spend, Spend, Spend" will open at the Watermill and play till early September. And between September and November there will be a touring production of the Craig Revel Horwood/Sarah Travis actor-muso production of The Hot Mikado.

I have to say I'm a big fan of actor-muso shows - though they have to be done well to work and the genre may not suit every musical. Craig's stagings of "Martin Guerre" and "Sunset" and John Doyle's "Sweeney" and "Company" are amongst the best productions of anything I've ever seen on stage.

Well, I've seen just 3 actor musician shows. Mack and friggin Mabel (sorry about the Ray Moore reference there) Sweet Charity and Sunset. The only one for me which had the magic in direction to pull it off was Sunset. It really is a skilled art very few directors can have. It's an art that needs to be applied very sparingly IMHO.

Saw Mack and (friggin) Mabel in London and I thought it worked pretty well. Loved Sweeney Todd in NYC -- once you've seen Patti Lupone as Mrs. Lovett with tuba in hand, you can't imagine it any other way. I so looked forward to the John Doyle Company on Broadway, thinking the show was perfect for it -- but somehow it just didn't work for me. Really looking forward to Sunset Blvd. next month though!

I bet see Patti with tuba in hand was great, it be alos great if Sunset played one of those Broadway theatres too.

I loved Sunset and Company and what I've seen of Sweeney. I imagine it'll not work well in Martin Guerre or Sweet Charity however...I've always imagined it with Fiddler for some reason and I'd love to have seen Cabaret done like it. Hot Mikado was never a favourite of mine but I can imagine it working also. It surprised me how well it worked for Sunset Boulevard however. Also, the recent london production of Into the Woods had it didn't it? I can't imagine it in ITW, such a confusing show anyway, would just seem distracting from the story.
