hahaha okay - they were having some sound-mixing issues, I guess, so Adam said to bear with them while they had some computer glitches, and made an allusion to Ashlee Simpson-like stuff possibly happening, but he'd still be singing anyway.

Adam don't need no taped vocals!

Really thank you all as usual for all of the details about the concert!!! At first I was surprised/sorta happy to hear that he didn't sing book of endings, but then to find that he closed with that song really shocked me, not that I don't like the song, I am just surprised he closed the concert with it?
Sounds like you all had a great time, thanks again for sharing!!

lol! I know this is me reading far too much into things, but I was figuring he was trying to um, say something by closing with that song. Shame on him....
Or, maybe he closed with it just because it's catchy.

Posted: 11/14/04 at 12:09amemcee - thanks for agreeing with me about the song, it just seems a little strange to sing in a room full of fans, but I guess he looks at it as a sort of tribute in his own way is all i can figure?

Posted: 11/14/04 at 12:10amProbably. When I first read about that song I harped on it forever, but I decided it wasn't really worth worrying too much about it. I really don't think he means it in a mean way.

Posted: 11/14/04 at 12:14amAfter reading on the sh-k-boom site that "he means no malice" with the song I would agree with you emcee, but something about it just dosen't sit well with me.

This is a little off topic, but it's got to do with Adam, so why not?
AidaNYRent: Your picture is of Adam, right? Is it just me, or does he look quite a lot like an older Jeremy S=== (he played Peter Pan in the newest of the Peter Pan movies... I'm just too lazy to look up his name.)

Posted: 11/14/04 at 12:16amWhy? It's not aimed at everyone, just the annoying pyschos who think he's god. Wouldn't that creep you out too?

Exactly. Hold on - I'll dig up something I posted a while ago about it.
And.. oh! Josh Kobak (sp?) was there!

Yes that would certainly "creep me out too" but it seems to me that this would be a selected few people not the "norm" so why put an entire song on a cd that took so long for us "normal" fans to get and then not thank the fans (creepy or normal) on the cd AND then close your cd release show with it.
I dont want by any means to start a hate post,I love the guy too but it just doesnt sit well with me! :)

Okay, I posted this on CB a while ago... one of my VERY rare posts over there.
Anyway, "Book of Endings." I saw him perform this song at the Kean show, and I thought it was really catchy. It's one of my favorites on the CD, actually, but I couldn't figure out exactly what it was about. Then I went and read that stuff on the Sh-K-Boom site. I was kind of put-off at first, but after discussing it with a bunch of people, I kind of figure this: Adam explicitly says that there's no animosity intended, and I think we have to take what he says for what it's worth. After all, he is the artist. I also think we have to take it as more of a general statement than about just his fans, per se, and assume that there is a bit of poetic/artistic liscence and creativity in there. It seems like it would be crazy of him - if dealing with fans, etc was really so difficult for him - to be in an industry where it's become such a big part of the job. I mean, yes, sometimes his fans can get a bit out-of-hand, but I tried not to be upset over it because I know that I make sure to put in an effort to do more than shove something at him and ask for an autograph. I tend to think that a lot of this is based on past experience, too, given that he used the word "stalker" in that description. I think it is something to think twice about, but as long as we're respectful of him, what more can we do? And honestly, look at the way the song ends: "But I wrote this song and I owe it all to you." He's perfectly well aware of how important his fans are, it seems.
So don't worry too much... I don't think it's as nasty as it sounds... I hope.

Really? Josh was a good Roger.
mesmerized, he wrote it and why shouldn't he sing it? Listen to the lyrics, it's not mean. And there is a thank-you in that song.

I definitly think he should sing the song i love the beat and I love the ending of it BUT like I said to use it as a closing number...I dont know I know i am bieng over analytical and I have "listened to the lyrics" many times I didnt say I dont like the song I just said it doesnt give me that warm tingly feeling! :)
Edited to say: very well said emcee!

"and I owe it all to you.."
It's an understandable love-hate relationship. His career is built on people liking him, but there's a line that needs to be respected.

Oh! Thanks! I spent a looooooooong time mulling over that when I first got Civilian. It kind of has come to the point where I can just laugh it off and be "oh, of COURSE you're closing with this." Nice crack at subtlty, Adam.
