I don't think he is saying "get a life". I mean, it can certainly be applied to the people who need one and are obsessing over this closing...like people who make petitions saying Rent killed Jonathan Larson...just saying...
Anyway, my point is that I think he is just trying to make people realize that we shouldn't be sad. We had a chance to experience it and just because it's going off Broadway doesn't mean that it has to be forgotten. He's saying if you love Rent, you can keep it alive by honoring what Jonathan wanted in the first place.
Also, sally, you are welcome. And I agree. :)

Pascal is in the process of redeeming himself from the earlier debacle with his website.

Im a Rent Head (at 29) the show shook me to my very foundations when i watched it when it was a teenager as i watched it right after i lost my Friend Charmaine to Aids, that been said, whilst im sad its closing i could never go and repeat watching it so many times.Ive seen in twice in NY and twice here in the UK (im not inc Rent Remixed YUK) and that was quite enough.
Lets hope its back with a great revival in 10 years, but more importantly, lets hope that the issues its dealing with have finally begun to change in 10 years

I was going to write something to this effect, but I can't figure out any better way to put it... so I stole it verbatim.

Posted: 1/18/08 at 8:36pmFor those upset about Adam insulting all Rent fans, the comments he's reading are most likely from the message board on his site. If he really did mean "Get a life", he's actually being more polite than those nutcases deserve.
Wanting life but never knowing how

Well - they are his fans to insult. Even if he did mean "get a life", his other comments about Rent were very nice. I'll be interested to see Anthony's response- whenever he visits myspace again.

Posted: 1/18/08 at 11:37pmI don't think Adam meant what he said as a mean "get a life, you losers" sort of comment. I think he meant to be comforting and try to express to people that it's okay, because life goes on, and that now it's time to take those things this beloved show has given us and act upon them. While, to be honest, I found his tone a little condescending, it doesn't read like it was on purpose -- I can think of a lot of times where the way he expresses himself has caused his comments to be misconstrued -- and I actually find the intention rather sweet. If he wanted to be insulting, he wouldn't have been subtle or backhanded or sly about it. That's just not how he is. If he's going to be mean, he's up-front about it. I think what's going on here is that people are so hung up on insulting Rent fans themselves that they'll read it in absolutely anything just to have something else to throw in the fire. Even if it doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Exactly emcee. The biggest evidence that he doesn't just mean "Get a life" is the fact that he didn't come right out and say "Get a life." He totally would have if he wanted to.
And I am going to ask again because I'm very interested and no one is answering. What is Ariella referring to? What did Adam do on this site???

I don't know what Urban is referring to, but what Ariella meant (I'm pretty sure) is that his site's initial launch was quite bumpy, what with fans getting angry at the person who supposedly created it and Adam getting angry with the fans. Things are calmer now.

Really? I visited the site early on and the only drama that was going down then was the whole random users pretending to be angry ex girlfriends thing and the blog in which Adam basically cursed them out in. Then I remember he erased everything and started over and instituted the login system. I don't remember any creator hostility.
Thanks though. You're right. That probably is what Ariella meant.

Because you didn't see it, that means it didn't happen?
There was additional drama between the fans on the message board, and eventually Adam got involved and made more than a few derogatory, off-putting comments on his blog. Then he erased all of the pissy blogs and replaced them with one suggesting that everyone start over.

Oh no, Emcee, that's not what I meant at all.
Clarifying: I didn't ever see that go down. I guess I missed it. Thanks for informing me.
I just assumed that was implied. I guess it wasn't clear. I believe you and Chloe. I do! I promise!

I think Adam was making a reference to the current generation of Rentheads. The ones he experienced personally when he did the show this summer. They are of a different breed then the ones he was used to back in the day.
Back in the day, the fans were really into the message and all that. The show motivated them to do something whatever it may have been.
But, with the current generation of Rentheads all they care about is the show. Nothing more. They don't really care that Rent is a parable about how you should live life to the fullest. They don't care about any of that stuff. Most of them most likely don't even know who the hell Jonathan Larson is. They think that the show is the biggest thing since sliced bread. They don't care about the message.
These are the people Pascal is talking about.
I was doing a theatre program this summer with some kids who were younger then me. When they talked about how they wanted to see the show time and time again. I had asked them if they were really impacted that strongly by the show's message. They had told me that they weren't. That they felt that the message was one that was said time and time again. What made Rent any different they asked. I found it amazing that could see it time and time again without getting anything out of it other then a good story.
I understand that it is okay to want to return to your object of fantasy time and time again. That is why I never knock people for seeing a particular show many many times. But, with a show like Rent there is a message in there. And its not a hard one to figure out. It is right in your face. But, the fact that there are people who just refuse to realize that it is there bother the hell out of me.
