It's certainly not a great show, but I didn't think it dreadful either. My primary complaint was that the actor playing the interloper lacked the magnetism necessary to believe he could endanger the relationship of the other two. The story would've been more plausible to me if he had played the one left behind.

No doubt it is; this sort of play was very successful in this same small way back in the 80s and 90s -plays like Jerker, Soul Survivor, The Boys in Cellblock C, Cute Boys In Their Underpants (and its sequels), Party, 10 Naked Men, Making Porn, Sleeping With Straight Men, etc., etc., etc. And of course, Naked Boys Singing. Male full frontal easily sells (small) houses for a while.

This play is slightly different in that it's really banal, utterly devoid of humor, and painfully suburban/Victorian in its morality. The earlier plays were (mostly) at least examples of bohemian ghetto theatre ("ghetto" used in the sense of "by and for a specific non-majority population".

Kad, the good comes with the bad. The closer to the mainstream being gay gets (and what is more mainstream than the return of Will & Grace?), the more alluring the conservative life becomes to the former outsider. Hiding in the closet is less prevalent than it once was, but then there are all those terribly bourgeois gays and lesbians with generic beautiful homes and generic beautiful children and generic not so beautiful values. And a side result is generic awful plays like Dada Woof Papa Hot and Afterglow.

There was a moment 3/4 into the play one of the characters said " I am in a lot of pain." I turned to the two theatre goers next to me who were obviously over it and looking at their watch and I said "me too!" Best menage a trois moment and laugh of the evening.



I'm going to start with the good. And there is not much good but let's start there. The use of space in the Davenport was quite interesting. They put the audience on both sides to make you feel like you were part of the action, an interesting jigsaw puzzle set complete with an onstage shower and some nice lighting effects to get the sense of Afterglow.

Unfortunately, after just five minutes with these characters, you realized you didn't want to be part of the action. How do i get out of here?



The plot. Three guys are in bed naked as the show opens. Two of them are married. One is the younger massage therapist from downstairs who they are having sex with. 5 minutes later one of the married guys proclaims his love for the younger massage therapist. The massage therapist doesn't want to come between the married guys because that would be wrong. Never mind he's already been in bed with both of them. But of course he does. How do you think this ends??? How does any love triangle end? And were are only 5 minutes into the play.

I think gays deserve a better play. I think love triangles deserve a better play. If there was an intermission I would be out of there. No wonder they cut the intermission. Having put the audience on both sides, the only way to escape the theatre would be to walk on stage. And believe me, I thought about it.

The three characters were superficial, uninteresting and I could care less about any of them. In fact they were three gay guys I would not like as friends let alone date or fall in love with. I realized how unimportant bodies can be if your character is soulless. And all of these characters lacked deveopment and soul. And dare I say the bodies were not worth the price of admission? If you can't care about anyone in a play, why have to sit there? Nude or not.

If you must see naked people, there are better ways such as porn, private parties or watching the WWE.

And you will not care a lick about any of these superficial underdeveloped dull characters.The writing was pedestrian

The acting was so bad I thought it was a non union production. I thought with non union salaries no wonder it could run so long!

But after the curtain call, Boy was I surprised when they raised money for Equity Fights Aids at the end of the show cause they were indeed Union performers.

I would avoid this one at all costs.

When I saw it last summer I had no idea they were all going to be naked. Seriously! 5 minutes before the show my friends and I heard heavy breathing (borderline moaning) in the background which was a bit odd but then obviously everything made sense after the show started. From friends who went recently, they told me they didn't hear any heavy breathing a few mins before the show started.

If that's what one is looking for, there are much better options.

Not to mention cheaper, and you can touch yourself and eat a snack at the same time, too.

I agree that was a good lesson to learn. Now if I could just be superficial and not like good bodies.

So perhaps I should go for a good body and face.... paired with a good soul. I can have both right?

And the three-man dong parade is marching on into August...
